Gmail account got hacked (check your passwords!)

I have a Gmail account that I use only for email only related to internet sign up stuff like Shroomery, Facebook, Craigslist, midget porn forums, etc. I figured I didn't really need a strong password (it was only 6 characters, all letters) because no one would bother hacking that account.

WRONG!

I just tried to sign in and apparently someone hacked it yesterday and sent 7 spam messages to EVERY email address I have EVER contacted.

I managed to get the account back and set a stronger password, so all is good now.

Sooo... this post is just a reminder for you guys to change your passwords if they aren't strong. A strong password should be at least 8 characters long and have both letters and numbers in it. It's even stronger if it's longer than 8 characters and contains both upper and lower case letters.

Had that been someone other than a spammer, someone with malicious intent, I could have been fucked if they used the password recovery function on any of the sites I frequent.

All my passwords are a completely random mixture of numbers and letters.  Example:  g854frsx

I use a simple less-than-8-letter phrase without numbers as my password for everything. :stoned:

i had the same problem about a month ago, with my gmail and face book accounts... i wonder if it could be a virus/trojan

In my case, probably not, it was just an easy to hack password. I have 2 other Gmail accounts, a Shroomery account, and a Facebook account and none of them were touched.
