Creating Dubstep

Hello Shroomery!

I've recently become interested in making dubstep remixes.

Such as,





However, I do not know how to get started.
I know there are users on here that make dubstep and I was wondering if you could help me out.


I tried using Audacity and Garageband on the Beatle's "Revolution", but I wasn't very successful.

I am on a Mac, so hopefully that won't limit my program options.


So what I'm asking is:

What program(s) should I use (Mac)?
Any tutorials I should watch?
Any tips?

FL studio. Start with that. It is an amazingly easy yet amazingly complex program.

I don't know if you want to start right off remixing things if you have no experience making electronic music. Try making some of your own original material first.

Edit: I'm not sure if Mac supports FL studio. I don't see why it wouldn't

I'm cracking up right now. I started listening and thought you ripped off what I thought was a different dubstep remix of the same song. I furiously opened my music player to find the song and was prepared to bitch you out for stealing music :lol: only to find... your song.

Remix is fantastic! :thumbup:

Ableton Live is pretty good, it has some great remixing functions.  Lite versions are available cheap, and often come bundled with sound cards etc.  The best way to get started, (and see if it is for you) is too search for demos and tutorials in YouTube.  You can start simple and get more intricate as you become familiar with all of the functions, effects, instruments etc..  Unlike many programs.  You can always add more AU instruments and effects later to get new sounds.

I'm 99% sure ableton live is available on mac, but pretty sure FL Sudio isn't.  Most Experienced mac producers use Cubase and Logic, but they are more difficult.  You can get awesome results with ableton live, plus it's by far the best package if you want to jam live.

If your on a mac get a copy of logic.

To remix tunes you need to get the bit out of the tune that you want to keep, get a nice clean sample and time stretch it if necessary to fit your new beat.  Then you'd need to go about the process of creating the new sounds you want via samples, synthesizers and effects units.  Its a BIG task if you don't know anything about it.

Start at the bottom, get some software like FL or Reason and practice making beats.  You'll need to take youtube lessons to learn how to compress, EQ and side-chain properly else your music will not sound at all professional.

That is NOT my remix, it is like Propensity stated, I'm only "aspiring" to make something similar.
