Guns and drug felons
    #13072519 -

So I am a drug felon.
Recently my dad has given me his entire collection. 5 handguns and a tactical shotgun. I am not supposed to be anywhere near firearms and I dont even hunt and I really dont have any interest whatsoever in guns.
Now I dont know what Im going to do with these damn things. On one hand,I kinda want to keep them, because they have been passed on to me,and it means alot to me,as my dad has never given me anything before.
On the other hand,if I get caught with these guns, its a federal offense. They are all registered and completely legit, lawfully tho,I cant possess them.
What am I supposed to do with these?

Does your dad know about your felony? If he does, and has never given you anything before, that sounds odd.....

And if he's never given you stuff before, then your polite return of these "heirlooms" shouldn't be a big deal to him. I wouldn't risk jail over something you don't seem to want anyways. I'm not a gun person, and it would be weird to take 6 of them suddenly.....

Don't get caught with them. You will only get caught if you're doing something stupid and get the cops involved in your life again. Just store them in a closet or something. If you get rid of them you'll probably regret it someday.

That's 30 years fed time.....
Do you have a trustworthy family member or friend who could store them?
Get your rights back, have the felony expunged?
I am in the same boat and as soon as I am off paper plant to start the process of getting my rights back.

Yeah he knows I fucked up with drugs. Thats what I thought also when he gave them to me....odd. I dont think he understands that drug felons arent allowed to possess firearms.
I was thinking that,I should politely return them. Im so noid about having them in my house right now.
This situation is just weird kinda.....I dont know why he would give them to me suddenly out of the blue.
Hopefully he understands, that its not that I dont want something from him, just that I cant have them.
Thanks for the reply

Once a person is convicted of a drug felony, are they ever allowed to get a firearm again?

You can have your record expunged, it's costly however it's worth it.

Yeah, i would give them back and explain exactly why. If he truly wants to pass on heirlooms, maybe he'll help get your record cleared.

Yup. OP should consult a lawyer. This is a valuable thing to do even if you don't want to own guns.
