Who's been busted for Pot? What was the sentence?

I'm collecting data to determine if I should kick the habit based on the possibility that one joint can ruin my life.

All the times I was busted I was under 18 and only had to go to children's jail.  One join can certainly ruin your life; but then again the police can and do ruin peoples lives with or without a joint.

I got busted a few weeks ago, I just turned 19.  For a while I was super scared, all the stuff about permanent marks on your record, not getting hired anywhere and shit people were talking about online.  It was my first offence, I got a couple classes to go to and all charges are dropped.  It really depends on where you are in the world really, but I wouldn't be too worried.

That being said, having a drug conviction would realllly fucking suck.

After aging up a bit, I realize how lucky I have been in the past. Have sold/bought lots over the years. Smoked here and there. Was always fond of stuffing a pinch in the end of a cig to smoke at bars right there. People would be like "Someone's smoking weed", but if anyone looked at me, I'd be like "It's just a marlboro, wanna puff?" After two puffs the weed would be ashes.

I even had a couple of babies in the closet, but once you could smell them standing outside the house, I tossed them.

I got happened up on by a cop smoking with a buddy at an oil well location once, he kept threatening us with all kinds of crazy shit yelling "Where's the pot?" We denied it. It was in the guys shoe. The fucked with us until they got a call that some ass hole was doing donuts at the civic center and got stuck and was tearing the grass up. They told us to go find somewhere else to smoke and peeled out slinging gravel everywhere.

I did get in some trouble with a DUI and I couldn't imagine going through a legal process at this point in my life.  However, I'm not going to roll over to the law like I did then. I have two traffic tickets pending because I pled guilty to both.

One was an unsafe lane change where I got smashed by a bitch looking to sue someone. plead innocent. (the cop told me to, said he would just say he didnt see it happen) And a speeding ticket for 75 in a 60, I told the cop then he had the wrong Guy. I had my cruise control on 60. Plead innocent to that one.

Anyway. I love to smoke, but I don't wanna be serving jail time transporting my monthly quarter bag to the house.

as long as you are smart and don't hangout with idiotic stoners that blaze up in their cars during the day you should be fine. be extra careful when you drive with weed

I was busted on federal property with about two grams.

I got a lawyer, went to court.

1 year probation, didn't even need the lawyer it turns out, because I wasn't contesting the charge and he told me I could have just done it myself.

Sucked though.  Piss tested randomly, about every two weeks.

6 months group therapy and NA meetings (though I never went to the meetings, just bullshitted the forms).

Edit- totally forgot.  Because I completed the year of probation without problems, and because I was in the first offenders program (only available to people under 21 I think) my record was expunged afterwards.  There's a record that I was charged with *something* if you go to the federal courthouse, but it doesn't say what, or what the outcome of the case is.

Because of the separation of state and federal records, if I ever get busted again (99% of marijuana arrests are made on the state level) they won't know about it, and it will look like a first offense again.

Win.

busted in California with 3/4oz.  they took it away and would have fined me i think $100 but they weighed the weighed in the bag and it came out over 1oz so that was a more serious fine/charge that i had to fight.  paid about $750 to get that to go away.

the penalty will not increase after 2 years of no more marijuana offenses.  it has just been two years and i'm clear now.  but i have a medical card now too so fuck it...less expensive than getting busted without one!

there are 13 states now where one joint cannot ruin your life. i cant speak for the other states. ive been caught in possession in Oregon and California and in both states they just make you throw it away. unless its over 1oz in Oregon then its a felony.

ive been busted for delivery and that can ruin your life in those 13 states if its large enough quantities. i got probably the smallest conviction possible for it in Oregon, 2years probation, 100hrs community service, $2500 in fines, and had to complete drug treatment.

manufacture is the worse, one plant has the potential to ruin your entire life. in Oregon the max sentence for manufacture is 10years prison and $300,000 fines.

just be smart and you wont have to worry about it, (and be conscious of the people you are hanging out with)

I got busted with an eighth of weed. Luckily my country doesn't have insane laws like the US.

The police officer confiscated it and gave me a $110 ticket.

I got busted a while back. I differed the charges, I got MIP, POM, and paraphernalia. Its all off my record with a couple hundred in fines, some classes, and 16 hours of community service. and I'm in texas. It doesn't ruin your life.

no one joint cannot ruin your life, its the pretty much up to the officer and the judge. minor possesion for first timers in a lot of places is just classes and fines, maybe testing.  Its not really a punishment but an indirect tax on smokers via fines,fees and tax dollars to support law enforcement.

I did the deferred treatment/classes and it was complete bs, i learned MORE about drugs from my classmates and i could have scored whatever i wanted. i also knew someone in my class by coincidence.

The teacher was a complete tool, she was an ex H addict and her motto was "a drug is a drug is a drug" and if anyone tried to refute any of curriculum (unfounded propaganda and drug scare tactics) or just her opinion, she would tell you your ignorant. It was also funny b/c at every break or just before and after class, most would chain smoke like crazy. F THAT HYPOCRITICAL BULL

Dont quit because of what other people think, even the po; do it for you. But if you do get caught the classes are easy, its just a hit to the pride and conscience.

1200 in fines and a day in jail which later turned to I think 16 days in jail when I didn't have money for my fines
