Anyone got a Martin guitar?

Are they all so fucking flimsy?

Usually,when acoustic guitars take a knock,they get a dent along the sides. Superficial mainly unless they take repeated hits in the same spot.

This DXR1,instead of dents,they get cracks along the side after taking knocks.

I just noticed a crack the size of the palm of my hand on the  underneath where it sits :crankey:

The wood is so thin,it's like a wafer. What's up with that? It cost 700e so I'd like it at least to be a sturdy fucking body.

I don't own one but several friends do so I'm able to play them quite a bit.
That doesn't look like a knock, it looks like a bus hit it. :omgz:

How did it happen?
If it just did that after a gentle knock against a chair or something then there is something majorly wrong.

I'm sad to see this happen to you.

Just another quick caveat; never play a martin after spraying yourself with bug spray. It will destroy the finish.

I'm pretty sure it happened today out my back just taking mild to moderate knock off a chair leg. Nothing major at all. It took a whack off a rock down the beach before and it has a small crack on the other side but it's hardly noticeable.

What's annoying is I was going to invest in a pickup because we got our first gig outside our local pub recently but I'd bet this will cost a bit to fix too.

I bet because it's a composite guitar that it's weaker. Fuck sake,if only I'd known it was like this when I bought it. Lovely guitar but it can't take any sort of wear,she'll have to go into semi retirement for the time being.

Man that sucks balls.  I feel for you.  My Martin is strong as a fucking ox, but I am still very careful with it (not at all saying you aren't, accidents happen).  I am sorry for that shit.  If that happened to mine it would be like losing a child.

i have a martin acoustic, was stored improperly (right by a heating vent that spewed out very dry air all winter long) and bumped against a table, causing it to crack along the seam in the front. used a small guitar humidifier inside of it to get the wood to swell shut again, and a bit of wood-glue on the inside pretty much fixed it up. funny that so many people have experienced similar things with their martins, considering how nice of guitars they are.

holy shit dude that's a big dent

raise shit with martin or the shop you got it from, saying it was a defective piece, get them to replace it

I pulled that off after I broke the neck of my acoustic stepping on it when I was drunk, got an even better guitar for free.

I'd love to bring it back to the shop but I'd say they'll just laugh at me and say I should have been more careful. It really hasn't taken any serious knocks at all.

The wood is just too fucking soft.

Stop thinking so negatively! At least *try* and see what they'll do. If you come in with a positive attitude but down about your guitar breaking they'll be more likely to want to help you out than if you come in pissed off and acting like they probably won't do anything anyway. What's that saying...what's the worst that can happen? Will they just laugh at you? doubt it. Give it a shot hombre.

my friends martin was so fragile i could just feel it when i played it

i got an alverez that seriously sings compared to his martin too..

why raise hell with them when they'll fix it, including normal wear, for free

probably the reason yours was replaced, martin carries a lifetime
warranty, I have one I need to send in for repair

I see... in that case contact them to find out of they'll honor their
warranty for you anyway, remind them they're not the only producer of
guitars on the planet to conduct your future business with

I'll see what I can do but you think that would be kind of beyond any warranty with the crack that it has?

Obviously,it took a knock, there's no denying that but nothing that would warrant that. The thing just crumpled in.

hopefully they honor the warranty, they've been known to repair stuff like that under the warranty, if they choose not to, look into having it fixed, sell it and buy a taylor, takamine or alvarez

I have a vintage one that's in about this same condition
