chris johnson is overrated
    #12633510 -

he should be paid more than his backup is being paid, but i still dont think hes the best back in the league. if you watch some of his runs the titans have great blocking. they have guards 10 yds downfield and he just busts a "miraculous" run. greatest rb of alltime was def barry sanders. then walter maybe oj idk. jim brown just played in the early stages of the league. i mean he was great but i dont think he would be nearly as great as if he played with more advanced competition, whereas i think those other players would still be tops. cj should show up and honor his contract, especially since the titans cant even really give him a new contract due to league policy. theres no way they will cave and give him 30-40 mil to play this year and then have some weird contract structure. way too much money up front. if he blows a knee first game of the season wtf. that and he isnt that good. he is good but cmon he isnt deion sanders fast. he had a "record" combine but really that doesnt mean shit thats 1 number diff scouts report diff #s.

he has a damn good O line for sure, since even fatass Lendale was able to fit through those holes.

But he did break the single season record for yards from scrimmage in his first year as a starter.

And he did also have the highest rushing average since the merger for a while there.

And he does hold the record for fastest 40 time recorded mechanically.

I think what he's doing is great.  He should get paid based on his performance.  He's a fucking running back.  They dont last very long.

Whatever his performance is this year, he's clearly peaking, and can easily be considered one of the top 2 RBs in the league, if not the best.

While he is getting paid obviously less than his performance merits, he signed a legally binding contract and should honor it. This hold out shit for renegotiating is getting out of hand. It's one thing to hold out when negotiations are occurring prior to a contract being signed, but quite another to do so after YOU HAVE SIGNED YOUR FUCKING NAME ON A LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT. What the hell is the point of a contract if it's not going to be honored?

right on redstorm. the nfl needs to get some nhl like contracts. you never hear this shit with hockey players. given they are all guaranteed, however they do not make nearly as much at least the way its advertised. if you sign a contract, i think you should play it through. what is the point of it in the first place if you are going to try and change it right after you sign it?

Front offices break contracts all the time.

So whats wrong with players doing it?

Do front offices break contracts or do they just offer non-guaranteed years of contract?

In the NFL, there is no gauruntee for timespan on a contract,  I dont think.

But thats basically my point.  If the ownership has the power to drop someone from their contract,  it would be fair to allow players to also manipulate their terms of agreement.

Chris Johnson is getting paid based on his draft position, not his resulting performance on the field.

To me it's unfair when Jamarcus Russell already made a fortune for sucking.

The thing is, the owners aren't manipulating the contracts. Most contracts stipulate that years are not guaranteed. If the players don't like this, they shouldn't sign the paper. Offering someone a raw deal is far different than agreeing (in a binding contract) to that raw deal and then changing your mind a year or two down the road.

well jamarcus bustell got a shit ton of money despite being proved. why should a player that is proved be able to wiggle out of his original contract? if they can force these ridiculous contracts for unproven players, why shouldnt players that last honor the contracts they sign? these guys sign the contracts themselves, if it isnt guaranteed that is their fault. otherwise dont sign itm nobody is forcing them. bottom line is there should be a rookie cap and also there should be more guaranteed money. although players that sign a contract should be forced to honor that contract. if a team takes the risk to sign this player, should they not benefit? if a player is given a 5 year contract in good faith despite not being proven, if he blows up shouldn't he be forced to honor that in his 2nd or 3rd year? whats the point of taking the risk initially?

oh that is awsome.

To respond to what you said...I think a rookie cap is a good idea.

I can't really disagree with what you said, and it's a good point that rookie's are at fault for signing such long contracts to begin with.

I just empathize more with the players, cuz it really seems like Football players get the most shafted when it comes to contracts, compared to the other major sports athletes.

I personally think Chris Johnson may be one of the best RBs of our generation.

And as Jamie Dukes says, he deserves the money, Pay da man!

If the money was guaranteed, there is no way they should be able to get it back.

Can't believe he even made as much money as he did already...kind of absurd.

$36 mill for 3 years?  Or more like 2 and a half seasons of lackluster performance including coming to camp overweight.
