Re: Is stealing from huge corporate retail stores (like Wal-mart) wrong, and if you have done it, how? [Re: Annom]
    #12458726 -

I'm done in this thread. Immoral people are going to justify their actions forever. You can't talk someone out of thinking that the world owes them something. Justify it however you want, your still just justifying taking what doesn't belong to you. A good person acts noble even tho the world isn't fair.

also I just want to add:

kada's arguments have so many holes and flaws, completely illogical.

For one:

If plato's ideal of justice is to do wrong to those who do you wrong, then it would justify stealing from Wal-mart, because they are doing wrong not just to you personally, but to society and the GLOBE in general.

dude. you lack the basic intelligence to even understand the argument.

Justice is to make things FAIR. to enact PARITY. essentially

you steal someones toe, you get your toe stolen.

wal-mart steals from the less entitled? wal-mart gets things stolen from them by the less entitled.

stealing from anyone is wrong....

Yea, I agree.

I'm sure Walmart is ripping their market off with all the clever tricks under the sun (much like Westfarmers and Coles-Myre in Aus), and I think that too is wrong - but it does not make it right for anyone to do it to back to them IMO.

Far better would be a population who refused to be ripped off by giants like Walmart by informing themselves the actual value of a commodity and then refusing to pay more than what something is worth. Far easier said than done though!

I think Gandhi said something along the lines of "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". He was probably talking about violence, but I think the wisdom of that statement holds for all human activity. The pursuit of vengeance does tend to make one blind to some extent or another.

what about for people who have no morals and dont have to justify anything they do? you cant argue against them because they dont need justification or any of that bullshit.
and what about the people who have flop sided morals and belive selfishness is good because all we got in the end is ourselves while bieng altruistic and compassinate is bad because it doesnt focus on themselves.
and what about the people who do it to survive or to save a life.

well in the end it doesnt matter... thats what i say.
so i guess whatever floats your boat
and with that nugget of wisdom (or nugget of shit im sure some will say) ill take my leave

If Wal-Mart steals they should have things stolen from them?

And you calculated it out to make sure you only took EXACTLY the same amount or less than Wal-Mart took?

Why do you get to enact justice unilaterally?

How do you know other people haven't stolen enough to make the books balance yet anyway?

You just want to steal and feel better about yourself. Just say it out loud for the rest of the class.

Morality in general doesn't exist. it's a word people feel the need to pull out when they see something they don't like but can't explain why they think it's wrong

Didn't mean to make it about vengeance - I'm sure the majority of people who shoplift do it for other reasons with "getting even" being the last thing on their mind.

People certainly use that argument to justify their actions when stealing though. And, IMO: They are completely in the wrong.

Perhaps my usage of the word vengeance was not helpful to the point I was making. It's wrong to shoplift from Walmart.
