no you dont man, all you need is enough money for a ticket and maybe a lil bit for food.

My very first year i went on facebook and looked on the shambhala message board and found this guy that had a bunch of free room in his pick-up truck and he just asked for $50 for gas and i went with him and he picked up a few more people that messaged him on facebook. It was awesome to party with random people from all different walks of life and thats not even including all the people i met at shambhala. Everybody is the nicest and there is not limitations to the kind of people you can talk to.

Got to the shambhala website and go into the forums and theres usually people with free space offering rides to shambhala from all over.

Yeah I've had friends go and tell me it was amazing, looks amazing from the pictures! Hmmm that sounds awesome if i don't find another way there, but I think I know some people who can drive who would love to go too!

I'll have to look into this more.

I might go depending on the line up. I've been going since 04 but skipped last year. I am definitely bitter towards the direction the festival has gone, but i am sure i could enjoy myself if i went.

Too crowded though.

Bassnectar is the annual guest of honor pretty much.

You can count on him being there every year.

I'll check out those forums though.

I find people at shambhala really go fucking nuts - there's alot of violent/senseless crime and people go way overboard with the drugs. Not alot of respect among alot of the participants.

Ok, decent line up - looking forward to see if they add any huge international acts.

Rockpit looks like it's got lots of awesome BANDS, 5 alarm funk and los furious are both must see's if your into non-electronic music.

Beardyman would be awesome to see at the fractal forest.

The beach and pagoda are my favorite stages... i was stoked on all the IDM at the beach 2 years ago. Pagoda is seriously suffering since the people that used to run it as "the portal" left...

Hopefully seed of life comes.

Wtf. this will be my third year in a row and ive never had a problem. I have heard of things happening but those were isolated incidents but 99% of it is all good. I dont know where you get this violent crime and lack of respect shit from but its bullshit, its the total opposite.

Nope, there has definitely been a couple instances of armed robberies the past 2 years and there is very organized theiving going on while people are off partying - loads of cars/camps are broken into.  In addition there are alot of instances of "rape" <--- although the definitions can be blurry in a party atmosphere.

This is well known and is discussed on the forums.

To each their own - like i said, i've gone 6 years and have heard countless first hand experiences of people who have been pick pocketed, had their cars broken into, had their tents cased, had their bags stolen, etc.

Quite frankly i do not enjoy partying with people who take advantage of other people. Same goes for rightly fucked up tekker types.

Just wait until Monday morning when everyone leaves all their trash all over the grounds. You'll see what i mean about the lack of respect .. + an example, i was walking through the trails by the river with a friend in jeans with long hair and people yelled "hey jim morrison, go home" - seriously, wtf.

Sure - there's probably several hundred sketch bags and 1000's of rightous partiers, but i've had enough bad experiences with the mentality of people there that i look to smaller  and more community/art/lifestyle oriented festivals to go to instead...

I hate to give my money to that family and am only considering going because i likely won't be able to afford burning man this year... *sigh*

But hey - if you have a good time, great. If i never knew how it was in the past, i wouldn't be so resentful towards how it is now - a big shitshow, cashgrab with no love.

I won't talk you out of going - just stating how i see things.
