How do you find festivals?
    #11140700 - 09/27/09 11:09 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

How do I find them? I've always wanted to go to some but I rarely ever hear about any besides maybe bonnaroo.

I'm on the east coast so it'd have to be nearby, I'm not trying to drive across multiple states or anything.

Go to the gathering and travel forum.

It is in the next bank down on the main forum page, below physical and mental health.

Once you go to a couple festivals you start hearing about others and it turns into a lifestyle from there :P

bonnaroo, 10,000 lakes, coachella, burning man, lightening in a bottle, shambhala, symbiosis, eclipse, etc etc etc....

connectfestival.ca is a cool little one in Saskatchewan, it's always a hell of a time. You usually do a little tour where you hit up it, winnipeg folk fest, & shambhala in a few weeks. (I think that's what they said, I've only been to connect so far myself)

Yup, pretty much.

Once you go to one you kinda just get within the loop of things and start to find out about tons of shit going on all the time.

Those are all relatively bigger festivals...I do want to check out Symbiosis and Burning Man next year, if they hold Symbiosis next year that is....

But i think the smaller festivals & gatherings are the way to go...The ones that are only advertised locally, via fliers or even strictly word of mouth. Try to find out what goes down in your area, i'm sure there are some shin digs going down out in the cuts somewhere relatively close to where you live....

About a year ago, when finally started to become interested in festivals and gatherings, i only knew of a few events that happened through out the year...Over this past summer, nearly every weekend i knew about something going on that was less than a days drive from where i live....You start to get fliers, start to learn about different "promoters" & "crews", and then you wish you would of known about everything that goes on around you long ago.

The best way to get involved, not just with festivals, but your local community, is through burningman.com

find your regional group, and hook up with them. theyll stick you in the loop of all the good festivals, concerts, hangouts, and events happening within your area, while doing there damndest to drag you to burningman 2010 (which youll go to if you have any sense)

this summer was my first year in the toronto group, and i attended mooseman (regional burn), kajama midnight cruise (bouncy beats on a sailing ship), work with cirque du soleil, and finally burning man.
