Window's 7 was apples idea.

I've been watching these windows 7 commercials, and realized, most of their new "simpler" ideas are just complete copies off mac osx. Has anyone else noticed this?

Heh, my friend was all excited about getting Windows 7 since he was having so many problems with Vista. He was showing me all the neat little features and on about 9/10ths of them I would be like "pretty neat, too bad I've been able to do that with OS X since I bought my powerbook in 2003".

He didn't like that very much. :tongue:

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

Those two companies have been bouncing off each other's ideas since they started.  That's how they compete.

As far as GUIs yeah, I guess windows7 has borrowed ideas.  They work completely different and the redesigned kernel operates much different from each other.  Win7's Kernel actually runs much diff from vista's.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude, I just really don't see why people like apple so much.

Their hardware is generally proprietary, even their desktops. Not to mention they are way overpriced considering all of this.

In my opinion, apple computers are for people who don't know how to customize or fully use windows to the fullest extent.

The Microsoft Direct X API is the only reason I even use windows, or else I'd be on a SuSE linux distro.

When you are a hardware geek, you like to build/customize your computer specifically for benchmarks and gaming purposes, Windows is mandatory.

Sorry, using emulators like Wine does not use your hardware to the fullest potential because Wine forces you to use OpenGL graphics.

And running it in a Virtual Machine would be possible. Unfortunately, Mac OSX isn't going to support every custom motherboard/CPU/GPU/etc configuration, because they are all aimed for windows users.

Often, you can find linux drivers for new hardware, but the main flaw is all the games and all the hardware are designed to be ran on the DirectX API.

Windows7/DirectX > Linux > Mac OS, imo :smile:

Windows 7 was a major rebuild and has little in common with windows Vista. That's why it doesn't suck. I ran Vista from start to finish, and towards the end they had ironed it out a lot, so even that statement is a little bullshitty.

Also good luck upgrading your hardware on a Mac. Enjoy paying double price for that limited proprietary hardware.

Like so-and-so above me said, hope you don't want to use that very nice core i5 for DX10 gaming or anything.

And don't throw me that bullshit about it costing so much more because it includes software. Anyone who can't afford all that software anyway can just go download anything for free regardless if they have half a brain. CS5 costs more than a gaming-quality laptop, or a low-end Mac.

One of my lan-buddies used a Mac for a while. They're not bad machines, they're just not for those of us who like spending money wisely. When I'm making 25+$/hr I'll be all over apple products.

I still have my desktop for gaming. I bought this powerbook for school and it was perfect. I didn't want something for gaming. I just wanted something that I wouldn't have to worry about. And it's about the most well built laptop I've ever seen.

And the fact that it still runs like a top after over 6 1/2 years, well that's gotta say something.

I used Vista start to finish as well.  Yeah they ironed out a lot of the problems, but it's still a different kernel regardless of how the GUI is presented.  I like 7 a lot.  FPS in games is much higher, my RAM runs faster, everything pretty much operates faster, my windows experience index is at a 7.4 almost all across the board (except for the HDD).  A bit higher than in vista.  Boot times are also quite splendid, especially on my new laptop.

It'd be nice if there was a way to run MacOS on a non Mac-PC.  I don't know much about how the OS operates but if it operates on x86 base platforms, then it should operate the same.  It's unix based.  Apple is very douchy about their software and won't ever allow it to be released on another system.  I mean they won't let Flash operate on their iphone products because they don't want to release OS details.
