Question on Reformatting
    #12368903 -

A friend of mine helped reformat a laptop of mine, instead of XP, he put vista( stolen) of course.

Now, a month later, I can't access the laptop at all.  It asks for a register key (which I don't have). It won't let me go to the desktop or access the computer at all.  It will only allow a few minutes for me to register a key online (which once again, I do not have).

Possibly, how could I reformat the computer with no access to it at all?

All help and rude comments welcome.

you put in the xp disk, or vista disk, and reformat when it prepares the partition.  it isnt that hard....what are you using Vista for anyway?  It sucks a 20 inch root virus.

get a key generator, it will take off the time trial usually. just look around thepiratebay for one. I had the same issue for a day on windows 7, found one in two seconds and my comp was good to go

Vista is fine other than being inferior to Windows 7.

it is?  I had identically set up system, tried to set it up so vista and xp had the same service set, when i benchmarked vista was about 20 percent slower than my xp, especially in memory tests.  Besides that, the fucking DRM was fucking up my home recordings and wouldn't allow me to stream my own playing out online.

It depends on your machine. You probably shouldn't run Vista with any less than 2 gigs and even then it will probably be slower than XP. But having 4 gigs of ram on a new machine isn't even a big deal these days. Most of the bad rep Vista gets is from people who upgraded but didn't really have machines built for it which is partially Microsoft's fault, but partially the uniformed consumer's as well.

I'm too broke to even buy a machine to put Vista on  It's still a decent OS though. Benchmarks aren't everything. I will concede that it's pretty pointless to use. Your options are pretty much XP or W7.

Just go into your mobo BIOS, set your boot priority to CD and put your windows XP cd in.

Do a clean format and reinstall.
