very trippy but far too pretentious. . .Eraserhead will always be Lynch's masterpiece

Inland empire stole three painful hours of my life. Pretty sure Lynch did it just to see if his groupies could differentiate cinema from just random shit happening on screen.

I watched that last year on LSA.  Somehow Led Zep got turned on after an hour or so, and I ended up in the bath tub...head in the clouds, looking at all of the fractals on the shower tile.  I'll have to try and watch it again sometime.

I watched Inland Empire again the other night, with the aid of some JWH-018 and I swear it made a lot more sense to me that time around. I don't consider it pretentious at all.

i dont think its pretentious but to me it seemed more like a lot of expermintal ideas put together compared to lynch's other work.  he generally doesnt have a linear storyline anyway.          i  def need to watch that again

I really do recommend repeat viewing of it. Strange thing for me is, I usually cannot follow movies at all when I'm baked, but Inland Empire actually began to make more sense. Maybe it's just because I've watched it before and I could make more connections that I had missed the first time round.

Not pretentious?????? The movie is not coherent but somehow contributes more to the world than an episode of sex in the city?

can someone please explain to me how art can be "pretentious"?

it seems to be a word people use to describe something they don't understand.

anyway, for those who didn't understand the movie,
it's about a group of people making a movie that was attempted to be made before but never got finished because the events in the movie began to happen in reality and now it's happening again.

I guess I never really "got" Lynch. I tried to but really didnt see the genius of any of his movies.

you're not supposed to "get it". that's the point.

his movies are art films.  they're meant to be vague because the more vague something is, the more open to interpretation they can be.

regardless of "what" something is, all art is viewed subjectively. and the more you try to "define" something, the less freedom that gives individuals to see it through their own eyes, in lieu of the artist's.

but it was past the point of being open for interperatation. It was "trying too hard" to be artsy and out there. Some parts just had me rolling my eyes. It just wasn't entertaining.

And for the record, I'm a big fan of his other films.
