I'm at work, sitting on a little netbook * 1

Well a night down, and about 30 more minutes until I leave, and I'm sitting here thinking about a lot of things, mostly about how wonderful it is to have a keyboard to type on in comparison to typing on an iphone.  I'd been typing on an iphone for the past 3 months now, and just recently have I discovered that my roommate has one of these little Asus Eee's.  They're small but you know what, they work, and I don't know if I want to get a laptop after using this, as a laptop is much bulkier.  Laptops however can do a lot more, as they also have a CD drive, and tend to be faster, giving me the option to do some gaming, they also have better graphics.

I'm tethering my iphone, as the hospital blocks shroomery's website as well as a few others I frequent.  My 3G network is also faster than the hospital's free wireless network system.  Kind of makes me happy that I jailbroke the iphone.

Portland's treating me well, however I wish I had a bigger social network, and I can't seem to find bluegrass lovin' hippies up here.  Lot of techno/electronica scene, but where's the good ol' bluegrass?
I'm working a nightshift and it's wearing me out, but maybe just maybe i'll figure out how to adapt enough to survive here in Portland!

netbooks are starting to get better graphics.  High-Def and light gaming capabilities and whatnot.  the nvidia ion chip is one piece of hardware i know of that is making this possible in netbooks.  but netbooks with such capabilities often cost over 500 bucks, meaning you could get a more powerful laptop for the same price.

still, the portability is awesome.  i love my netbook to death.  it's been to 7 foreign nations with me so far, with 5 more intended in the next few months.  it's my favorite traveling companion.

Tethering is not a jailbroken feature, it's offered with factory settings from 3.0+.

Show me it working on an unjailbroken iphone.  :3  3.1.2 removed the network dialogue, which didn't work at 3.0.1 either.

i think my next notebook will be a netbook.

i really have no need for a cd drive at all. i can put it into the server and mount it onto my notebook.

all i use my ThinkPad for is the dumb, web browsing stuff and listening to music when im falling asleep. if i need to do some real work i let one of my servers do the heavy lifting.

I got a Gateway netbook and I love it. As long as I have a good desktop I will never buy a fullsized laptop again. Netbooks are just too convenient and the battery life is amazing.

i had that on the 3.x upgrades on my 3GS, but it didn't work.  It was there, but didn't work.  Try pdaNet if you jailbreak your phone.  Before pdaNet, it would read 'On', but nothing would occur.  I couldn't get any tethering to occur.  Whether the modem part was functioning I don't know, but how do you get it to establish that link with the PC?

Depends on the OS you are using - I have successfully used it with OS X and Windows 7.  In Windows 7, I plugged my phone in, and it was immediately being used.  In OS X, I had to go into network preferences and just hit 'Apply', and it was then working.  On my mac laptop I also have Bluetooth, and am able to use it as a Bluetooth Pan network adapter.  It's very straightforward - although it is dependent on your carrier, I'm pretty sure by this point all carriers support tethering.

tmobile doesnt support tethering.

Well that sucks.  Pretty sad.  I was really impressed Rogers rolled out tethering within 3 days of 3.0 release.  Some carriers suck balls - in fact most do, but some are worse than others.
