How did you start and what do you think about the techno scene?

there is no techno scene.  Right now it is dubstep and electro-house/fidget.

I started by going to a hard house show and ended up being friend's with the dj's.

Who are you speaking for man?  And what region in the world are you speaking for?

I havent seen any dubstep come around Baltimore in years.  Baltimore is all breakbeats, house, drum and bass, and trip-hop.

I've been an electronic producer for almost ten years now, in no way to I DJ though.  I sample everything live from Reason and use MIDI synths, keyboards, controls, racks etc.

I've been really into IDM, breakbeats, and simple electronic melodies along with 8-bit style shit.

But anyways...

I started by basically tripping balls and listening to aphex twin, squarepusher, flashbulb, infected mushroom, orbital, i cactus, null sleep, paul oakenfold (great dj) , etc. 

I was sick of listening to music when I, myself was constantly humming and beatboxing rhythms in my head and having tons of ideas.  I messed around with soundtrack, which comes with a video editing program called final cut pro (im a videographer) , then I went from garage band to fruity loops to reason to ableton live and protools and now I stick to reason because it suits my needs.

In terms of the techno scene, it doesnt exist.  Techno is such a broad term for electronic music.  Techno is like saying the word Music.  There is techno, trance, psy-trance, acid-trance, drum and bass, drill and bass, IDM, 8-bit, house, trip-hop, dubstep, etc, many many many branches. 

Use Pandora and go from there, youll discover a lot.  But first your gonna need to learn the basics of drum theory and get a natural grasp of the structure of electronic music as a whole.

Well thats true, too many types of techno, but I guess I like the uplifting type, sometimes its a bit girly, but usually it involves some addictive electronic beats and some lyrics that promote positive feelings and mental reinforcement. I became schizo and music since my first psychotic episode started to really affect me in a weird kinda way. I like the rush I get from up beat techno, I dont't mind trippy music either thats not bad.

I just want a way to express myself, I have no art form as an outlet.

You are probably talking about trance.  Techno is from the 80's.

check out www.beatport.com, go to progressive trance. I think that is what you are looking for.

then please, enlighten me, where is this techno scene at?

I live in portland, and have friends in the scene in Seattle and Eugene.  What I see is the newer dub style emerging.  PDX is big on their Dnb, seattle is big on their progressive trance and electro house.

Oregon must be getting all their stuff way late then man.

Ok so here is something I recommend you listen to, GREAT uplifting stuff :smile: !

The artist is Sasha, and the album is called Airdrawndagger, it was a solo album he did, and I still to this day have not heard anything quite like it.  Its not like his other stuff at all, hence his solo album, please please please look it up.

Great slow ambient melodies are throughout the album, inbetween he shifts those melodies into some great trance/breakbeat songs with positive melodies, def for you. 

Also, Paul Oakenfolds older albums like the great wall( 2 disc set), a voyage into trance, and "creamfields" especially(2 disc set).

Some of you are confused...

  Techno is a TYPE of electronic music.... it is not a general term, it is a specific type of electronic music.

  There are many TYPES of Electronica: techno, house, dubstep, breakbeats, progressive, trace, drum n bass, etc.

  It makes you guys sound retarded: " my friend loves the techno scene ", "all techno sounds the same" ... et cetera.

  better a forum though i guess.

I can only speak for SoCal. Electro is on the downslope and techno is doing really well right now. Dubstep is doing great too but seems to have passed its peak.

you are however right in saying that the OP probably meant prog/trance.

does it give anyone else the willies when people refer to the entire EDM genre as "techno"???
