Are christmas trees toxic?
    #11639021 -

I just ate 1 needle of a christmas tree and it tasted yummy. it was piney and bitter, very potent in flavor. I want to make a tea out of it, is the common christmas tree poisonous? Is christmas tree tea safe?

Most aren't poisonous, except maybe a Yew or Juniper, but neither of these species are common for christmas trees.  Most are Doug Fir, Spruce, Noble, etc...    I've had "Spruce Tea" a few times in my life, and it was... novel.

It's best to use the young fresh tips though, as the older woody ones aren't great.

Consider where it was grown and what kind of pesticides/fertilizers were used to make it grow.

Better bet is to go outside and grab some pine needles off of a free-range pine tree.

I do not believe that the pine trees are poisonous.  I'm not certain on it, but I don't think you will be harmed if you make a tea from the needles.  Of course, the chemicals on the tree could dick you.

Before you make a tea, read the thread about environmental contaminants that is posted in the pub right now.

good luck.  Share the results!

Thanks, I'm going to go make a cup right now as I am certain my tree is neither yew nor juniper.

pine needles are actually good for you, very high in vit C. People in the wild make tea out of the needles.
Like mentioned, the only thing I'd be concerned about is pesticides/etc, but we eat 100lbs of that shit in our food a year anyway so who care right?

Okay I took a young cluster of the needles from the tree and picked the all off and put them in a tall cup of boiling water and let it sit for 5 minutes.

I didn't feel like dirtying a tea ball so i just put the needles right in the tea.  (i live in rural new hampshire, these trees are pesticide free)

Other than my mouth getting needles in it on every sip the tea is excellent, it's flavor is best described using the word 'happy' it's such a bright tasting tea, I might have to make a pitcher of this and use it as iced tea, im certainly going to indulge in this more often, very piney, a little bitter, almost sweet in an odd way.

I would recommend this.

Just go back to McDonalds and order your super size big mac meal and leave the rest of us who like to experiment with the world we live in alone.

Pine cones
Main article: Pine nut

Some species have large seeds, called pine nuts, that are harvested and sold for cooking and baking.

The soft, moist, white inner bark (cambium) found clinging to the woody outer bark is edible and very high in vitamins A and C. It can be eaten raw in slices as a snack or dried and ground up into a powder for use as a thickener in stews, soups, and other foods, such as pine bread. A tea made by steeping young, green pine needles in boiling water (known as "tallstrunt" in Sweden) is high in vitamins A and C.

Yeah, it's called eating food from nature.. perhaps you've heard of it?
Ever heard of pine nuts? Where do you think those come from... a lab?
Are you even aware how many fruits/medicines/foods come from trees?
Well... I'm not either.. but it's a lot.

Aww man. Have you ever heard of a salad? Vegetables? Fruits? Have you ever heard of experimenting? Have you ever heard of nature? Have you ever heard of anything but modernized secular culture? Do you have downs syndrome?

No disrespect intended, all of the above are valid questions.
