New in Austin, all te way from Luuundan
    #11632872 -

Hey ye-all, what a wack city, no one seem to trust no one and I cant seem to dig out the secrets of were to find what in this town...  This place conservative or what?  Now I know prolly no one on here's going to be interested in showing me the ropes or giving advice, but maybe I could swop some deep Austin secrets for a beer or ten at a pub with character, if I there is one.  Yea man, I hope to find out Austin is not as dead as I think it is...
Cheers mateys, hope to hear from someone!

It's certain that you're not exactly exuberant about your residence here in the States. With that kind of attitude, you'll have a bit of trouble becoming acquainted with any like-minded individuals. My best advice to you is to lose the negative attitude. You'll have more luck finding pals by being more outwardly receptive of it. You could possibly start by meeting neighbors or coworkers, or going to the local bar or smoke shop.

Don't expect the States to be anything like London. And don't expect to find anyone off of internet forums, especially if you only have 2 posts there. Be open to your new environment, and learn to adapt.

Best of luck.

You know, intolerance is intolerance no matter who it's aimed at.

Man, drive to any other Texas city if you want some conservatism.  I'd live in Austin if I could afford to.

Hehe, dude, ave you been to Austin?  Meet likeminded people at work or in bars? Yea right, the closest I get to likeminded people here are weed smokers and even after 2 months here no one seems to know or are not willing to share how to amp up.  Sure, living in Cali it'd probably be easier, like I guess 40% of people in an LA bar is already amped up by the time they walk in there.  Hey, maybe it's just te cold winter Texas is having this year....

i've never been to austin, but i know it's got a great music scene.  it's the only place in texas i'd ever be interested in visiting.  it hosts the SXSW festies like twice a year i think, filled with great indie and underground rock.

MaxImpact, if you're in a situation where you can allow someone to stay on your couch or in a spare room, i'd suggest registering on www.couchsurfing.org .  it's a great way to get to know people.  and most big cities will have regularly scheduled couchsurf meetings, where you'd be able to meet some people and learn more about the city.  from what i've heard talking to fellow couchsurfers, getting on the discussion boards and joining groups is a great way to simply meet cool, adventurous fellow travelers.

i plan to utilize the network extensively starting in a month or so, to aid in my european travels.

austin isn't an amp town.

here in texas we associate speed with unwashed kids in a trailer park and beaten down woman from oklahoma stuck to a lame ass, low life, speed slingin, asshole who won't take care of his kids, his wife, or his responsibilities more than we associate it with clubbing.

you will be able to find speed in austin, but keep in mind, those are most likely the kind of folks you will be dealing with.

also the quality of speed here has gone way down from what i hear..."do a quarter gram and eat a pizza and go to sleep" was what one of my bud connects who has that problem complained about to me.

I'd recommend sticking to RC's which at least won't be cut with Comet(tm) or some baby laxative...or smoking bud, which austin is famously self sufficient in ...

He pretty much nailed it. If you think Austin is conservative it's probably best you find a different state to live in because it doesn't get less conservative than Austin. Got great music, food, beautiful women, bud, outdoor activities. I don't know what more you could ask for, I certainly think losing your attitude toward this place will probably help you connect with others in the city. By the way I live in Houston now and will be in Austin when I graduate in May. You would probably have better luck looking for speed in Houston?f
Haha, and yeah fuck Oklahoma
