Reptilians?

Anyone know where the theory of Reptilian extraterrestrial visitors originated? I don't understand why so many people believe that ETs are reptile-like organisms. The ones that I know to exist have almost nothing in common with reptiles except they seem to lack eyelids like snakes. If one were to compare them to a terrestrial organism, I would say they have more in common with insects than anything else. What are your thoughts about all this?

the entities take different forms

they appeal to your own mentality and what they believe you want to believe they are so that you will believe them

I always made the connection to the Reptilian Complex of the human brain, the seat of primal fear.

They seem to have human-like skin but it's light gray in color. Their bodies and limbs are very spindly like insects. Their eyes look very much like those of an ant but they don't appear to be faceted. I've read theories that their skin and eyes may be part of an advanced artificial protective layer but I personally don't believe that is the case.

Edit: This description above^ is in reference to the tall ETs. There are two anatomically different varieties working together. The other one being a shorter, similar looking ET with wide, heavy-looking bodies.

That's the way I've always seen it too. A myth based on the reality of the reptilian brain, controlling fight or flight responses.
