Today's forage!
    #11463670 -

Hi Again,

Don't worry, I'll slow down on the posts as I get more familiar with everything. And, I do have 3 mushroom books on the way so I'll be able to do more of my own identification soon.

Today I walked the Astoria/Warrenton waterfront area and didn't see much at all - first I was thrilled to find these marshmellow mushrooms (!) only to find they are full of baby shit. LOL. Needless to say, I didn't bring one home.

The other type I found on the regular walk were these deep dark chocolate shrooms:
#1

And then, when I thought it was a total loss, I stumbled on a great spot.  Virtually everything below was found in one spot under a couple of Doug fir trees.  The moist slope very near the water consisted of a bed of dead reeds, grasses and needles.  But my, I found a lot of things!  The small area had lots of Fly A's, and then the rest pictured here.  I've got all laying for their spore prints, but I can't wait.

Fingers crossed I've got something fun here! (or at least edible).

#2 Coral?

#3Firm brown shrooms, kinda lumpy, stems range from white to light brown.  I'm not sure if I've got two species mixed here.  They are a lot alike, but a few had much pinker gills.  Size range from 1/2 inch to a huge one at about 8 inches diam.

#4 Wavy waxy boys, caramel to orange sised 3/4 inch to 1.5 inch diam., orange stems, no bruising

#5Very sticky brown, caps 1 - 3 inch diam. incurled cap.

#6 Rusty colored, deep cinnamon gills, whitish reddish stems.  caps 1.2 inch to 1.5 inch.

#7Different looking tan mushroom with woody stem dark at root to light at cap, 1.5 diam cap with a little bit of green speckling.

#8 Found in natural alder mulch near water.  Very soft, frilly, undersea-like off white translucent shroom, delicate caps shaped like blooms, hollow stems same color.

#9 Found in alder mulch next to frilly's above. Very wet, mostly gray, dusty white stems, 1 " to 2 1/2 diam caps.

#10 These guys are pinkish gray, whitish stems, firm incurled caps 1 to 3 or 4 " diam.

I think these are the same from a previous shoot

And the hunt goes on ....

Thanks much for the identification.  Bummed I still haven't found any actives. I've been doing lots of online homework and it appears I've got some edibles here, but in some of the species there are both edible and inedible types.  I have much to learn.

I understand all corals are edible. Do you follow the rule of thumb I read that most Cortinarius are inedible so you should avoid all in this species?  Can't find exact info on the Lactarius - also didn't notice any milk.  Can you tell me if the #7 Hypholoma I've got is edible? It gave a purple/brown spore print.  And are we %100 sure on the pink/gray Lepista/Blewit? The spore print was pale orange. There is a whole patch of them and I'd love to have my first foraged feast!

Anything else edible here?  I read that some Hygrophorus are edible, but no-one had made a firm call on my specimen.

Thanks again!

I believe 4 is Infundibulicybe gibba

orange spores are wrong for blewits, should be white or only slightly pinkish - sure you aren't confused?

It was kind of wet when I put it down yesterday, so the spore print is more like a light pinky orange watercolor.  I've just set a new fresh one down for a print.  I picked another batch this morning and they are certainly dead ringers in appearance, inside and out.

Will post again when I have new print.

There's some mildly poisonous corals.  We'd have to see clear shots of the branching tips to maybe get an identity on yours (personally I've slacked off on coral IDing).

Yeah, I wouldn't mess with Cortinarius.

I'm not sure which Lactarius that is.  http://www.mushroomexpert.com/lactarius.html
Sometimes the latex or milk is not obvious.

If it's not bitter (taste a little piece), then it's Hypholoma capnoides and is edible (though they aren't listed as choice).  If it is bitter and has greenish tones in the gills than it's the poisonous Hypholoma fasciculare.

They look just right, but report back with the spore color from the new prints.

Yeah, it'll be hard to ID those from the pics.  Someone probably can though.  As far as I know there arn't too many good Hygro's.  They're often really slimy, and bland tasting.  I've had Hygrophorus subalpinus, and it was quite good, but it's a little meatier and less slimy than most.

I don't think so.  The stems are a lot paler than the cap in I. gibba.
