using gimp to type text wont allow different colors?

im using the text tool in GIMP and it doesnt change the color no matter what i do,

it just keeps it the same gray color as the image is and wont seem to change it.

this program is ridiculously user unfriendly, probably more so than adobe.

hmm. from what I see the toolbox window should have options for your text (when you have the text tool selected)to change colour/font/size.

it doesnt do anything though it still stays the color that it wants to be :gc: which is not the color i want :gc:

yea.. it works fine for me. you have the text selected and everything I guess right?
you also say you have an image present. maybe some layer/transparency issue?

I'm not pro with these things either, so may not be much help- but if it means anything I'm able to change so there is a solution out there.

after reading what you wrote here it occured to me that since its a different layer, that perhaps i have to select it after the fact and THEN change it. Honestly that sounds retarded though, because for example paintbrush allows you to chose "okay, i want red" then type your text, and then its red. ya know?

Don't waste time with Gimp. Just man up and steal yourself a copy of Photoshop.
