ID Please! Cereus Monstrose?
    #11357466 -

A guy is getting rid of these for 5 bucks+ shipping. I asked him to confirm what they were and he said he couldn't tell despite the many Cacti and Succulent books he had.

Can anyone tell what these are? I was hoping Trichocereus Peruvianus Monstrose, but I am no expert.

Here we go....

What's the difference between Cereus and Trichocereus?  At first I was under the impression Cereus was short for Trichocereus, like Cube or Cubie is short for Cubensis.

Think these would be good Grafting Stock?

Thanks for your help.

Monstrose like that tend not to have much use as graft stock as they grow far slower than the standard ones.

Cereus and Trichocereus are two very different species.

Cereus is latin for candle, tricho stands for hair.

Trichocereus fruits/flowers have hair on them, thus the name trichocereus.

just a beautiful cactus.  not used for food, drugs, grafting or anything other than pleasing to the eye   people will just call these "Cereus monstrose" because truth be told no one really knows...

Huh.... very interesting and helpful Cactus Dan and Kadakuda. Thanks.

It is a pretty cactus, but I need one for utility more than just looking at.

More precisely this one is Cereus peruvianus var. Monstrose Minor.
This is a 'dwarf' Cereus monstrose.
