i take prilosec daily and prob will for the rest of my life.  i have TERRIBLE acid reflux caused by 4 years of non-treatment.  If you have PERSISTING acid reflux, go see a doctor because it can SERIOUSLy fuck up your throat/esophagus. 

If you ever wake up in the night and poppin' a TUMS doesn't work, prop yourself up with pillows and sleep on an incline.  Our lifestyle leaves us especially suseptable to acid reflux:

-Smoking/drinking relaxes the flap that closes your stomach off from your esophagus
-Eating munchies right before bed (or anything right before bed) after smoking means your stomach is producing lots of digestive juices.
-These juices, paired with your sleeping position and the relaxed flap in your stomach/throat -- allow these acidic juices to seep into your esophagus, causing the erosion & pain that you are farmiliar with

I was sent to a throat specialist because of halitosis by my doctor which has been going on for probably about 10 years (my parents wouldn't take me) the specialist said he thought it was acid reflux but the antacids and change in diet didn't help.  I don't belive it's the acid reflux causing my halitosis not if it's been going on that long and it's an every single day problem.  I cut out meat for a while avoided the fatty foods etc but to no avail still got problems I really don't get it. I've never met anyone with this problem or at least someone who has it on an every single day basis.

I take 40 mg of Nexium daily (remember the purple pill commercials?? :lol:). I have bad acid reflux as well. Its actually caused some weird ulcer in my throat/esophagus. Now everytime the acid travels up i get a stabbing pain in my throat :sad: I may go in and have an endoscopy done before I lose my health insurance to get a final damage report.

Take care of yourself. I spent my late childhood, and teen years untreated for this. I thought nothing of it, and just let it be. Not to mention the binge drinking that accompanied my teen years didnt help.

The walgreens brand acid controller works wonders. I have acid reflux and take one pill a day every day. Works like a charm.

Yep - generic prilosec is called OMEPRAZOL.  It's fucking great and costs ~$4/week at Walmart (prescription) or ~$7/week off-the-shelf.

Try a teaspoon of baking soda in a small glass of water. Stir it up and slug it down. You will be amazed. Just prepare to belch.

meat requires more acid to break down into digestable bits; the more meat you eat, the more acid your stomach makes

I dont think I have reflux because I didnt eat enough veggies, I really think its smoking, but last time I had it was years ago when I was taking a gram of gravol every night, so im open to the possibility meds are doing it

besides keeping your acid basic is treating a symptom, it shouldnt be escaping your stomach in the first place

the best cure for it is apple cider vinegar. it actually makes your stomach more acidic which makes your stomach sphincter stay tighter.

I swear to you that if you have acid reflux, drink some diluted apple cider vinegar in water and it will go away much better than tums or any other bs remedy, or you can sue me.

for some reason the 100,000 heat unit ones had a bunch of other shit in them, so I had to go with 40,000 heat units, might try the vinegar next time it bugs me though, but im going to fast on cayenne for a couple days when it arrives, just in case its an actual ulcer, give it time ti heal without shit constantly going through my tummy

Been there dealt with that. I forced myself to sleep in a recliner when it got really bad.  I worked on my diet some and finally got over it. Good luck getting over it.
