I didnt start doing it until I was 17 either.

Last time I took DXM was at boarding school. It was in the form of coricidrin, which even though I knew was hepatoxic I took anyways.

I took 14-16, I don't remember the exact number. But I guess that'd be in the 400mg range, and since at the time I only weighed 125 with 5% body fat, I tripped nuts. It was insane.

The craziest thing was the guy who gave me the free CCC's took his an hour before me. He took something crazy like 24, and once he started to feel his, things got bad.

He went completely psychotic. He was listening to music on headphones, but was singing it at the top of his lungs even though everyone else was trying to sleep.

At the boarding school, we all slept together in a Yurt with two staff accompanying us the entire time, so the staff at first thought it was some weird joke to piss everybody off. But once he came out of his bed they could tell something was wrong. His face was unbelievably red, more than I have ever seen before. And his eyes were wide open, with massively dilated pupils. He was laughing and talking gibberish about things. It was honestly the equivalence of seeing someone out of their minds on PCP. Laughing and making random gibberish noises at the top of their lungs. Emotionally all over the place. One second he would be extremely euphoric, and the next he would be very depressed.

The staff handled it pretty well and decided to take him into the other Yurt where we cook and study to try to figure out what he was on, and how much he had taken. Eventually one of the students went in there to tell them that he had taken coricidrin.

Now all this shit started happening right after I consumed my dose, so I was presented with the possibility of forcing myself to puke, or to ride out the trip and hope all goes well. The student who told the staff what he was on had taken the same dose as me and decided to puke in fear of getting busted.

So I decide to pretend to go to sleep, and I go into my bunk bed and pull the curtains close. The whole time I'm in my bunk bed I hear the staff laughing with the student, and talking about things. I think they eventually realized he would turn out okay (even though he could of died potentially, they didn't realize this), so they just enjoyed themselves.

After about an hour or two I start to trip nuts.

I realized that I had learned to "throw" my spirit, and I could astral project to wherever I wanted.

It was like a really crazy dream, but I was conscious the entire time and in control. So I guess that's what you would call a DXM hole?

So I'm basically disassociated from my body almost the entire night, having insane experiences, being chased by mysterious entities, meeting enlightened beings and conversing with them.

There were several points though where I would come back to my body and sit up in my bed. The mere movement of my sitting up would throw my depth perception off so much that I would contemplate going to use the bathroom, but would then decide against it because it was such a weird sensation to move. I could tell that if I tried to walk to the bathroom I would be "robo-walking" severely and would possibly wake the staff up in the proccess.

So I would just lay back down and go back into the DXM hole.

Unfortunately I eventually slipped out of the hole when the effects wore off and directly into my dreams (though the fine line between the two is almost impossible to discern) so I don't remember much of what happened in the DXM hole.

Though I do remember the initial realization that I could detach from my body. I literally said (in my mind of course) "I CAN THROW MY SPIRIT!", and I proceeded to elevate myself to a higher astral plane where I encountered three ethereal entities who had similar appearance to the Theravada Buddha.
Most everything else is pretty blurry though.

I'm not sure if it's a common thing to have control over your experience in a DXM hole or not. I used to practice Astral Projection semi-regularly so I think that may have had something to do with it. Every time I have a chemical induced out of body experience I always have the ability to "travel" to whatever environment I desire it seems.

Anyways that's about the summary of my most intense DXM experience. I ended up waking up the next day feeling a little odd but okay. The kid got in a lot of trouble and was nearly kicked out, but he was one of the better ranch hands (the school had a functioning cattle ranch) so they were more lenient on him.

I honestly wouldn't mind exploring DXM more though. Next time I will probably just extract it so I can experience it in its pure form.

I guess Ill go ahead and tell my story too...

I was 17, one friend was 16, one was 18.
2 friends and myself all decided to mix CCC with my buddy's paxil (BIG MISTAKE). We each took one paxil and 16 to 24 ccc's (I cant remember now) right before school.

I weighed about 150 lbs, one friend was about 225-250 and the other was 325+.

The middle sized guy did not make it to school that morning. I made it to about 3rd period and the biggest guy made it all the way through the day (he was the one prescribed to the paxil and therefore it had less effect on him).

I made it through first period fine. When I got to English class was when the problems started. I passed out on the keyboard to my computer in the lab and it made that "beep! beep! beep!" noise until someone woke me up. I then went to get some water from the fountain and apparently (I dont remember this) I passed out over there and some girl had to come get me. I remember drinking the water but not passing out. I remember she escorted me to the nurses office where I told the nurse "Imsickineedtogohome" and the nurse took one look at my pupils and called my mom to drive me since I was in NO condition(I drove that morning). I was lucky she did not narc me out.

I got serotonin syndrome from combining with an SSRI.

When I came home I locked myself in my room and had one of the top 10 if not top 5 worst experiences of my life. Minutes turned into hours. I could not move but twitch my foot and that was the only thing that could soothe me. I felt like I had been stabbed in the stomach, and it hurt when I stood up, it hurt when I sat up, it hurt when I did anything but lay in the fetal position twitching my foot.

I wouldnt even take dex for a cough after that for a good 7+ years.

It depends on your personal physiology but I would say approximately 6-10 hours.

It FEELs alot longer than it really is.

Sounds pretty rough man. I'm glad you survived it. I'm sure it was a learning experience for you.

And Ben, even though you made some dumb decisions in your past (or at least the show presented it that way), I'm glad to see you are in a good enough condition to be on the internet posting instead of on the street, selling your body. Do you still use DXM? You mentioned using acid earlier in the thread. Do you use psychedelics often? Would you say they maybe helped you open your eyes to some things in your life that you didn't want to confront before?

Just trying to get some real insight into your life since the show obviously presented a biased and scary view.

Were things at the time the show was recorded really nearly as bad as they made it look?

To me it had a much darker and more sinister feel than conventional psychedelics.
I had minor rainbowing; but the major effect is depth perception. It became very difficult to tell what was near and what was far. Hallways rippled. I got vertigo when I stood up. It was similar to how mushrooms made me feel when I first started doing mushrooms (they have an entirely different effect on me now).
Also (on good trips) it made me very content to sit and stare. It did wonders to fight off anxiety. I felt sexy when I was tripping on dxm.

Stephen King was known to be a heavy DXM user before he got clean and I think that influenced many of his earlier works. As I said it had a dark and sinister feel.

It's odd. It's a bit like being drunk, but with visuals that are delirious/psychedelic in nature.

That's the best I can really describe it. Read some trip reports on the shroomery or erowid and you might be able to get a good idea of what to expect. The experience I wrote about was really intense and wouldn't happen if you were to just take a common or light dose.

I would say lighter doses are more recreational (enjoyable), but heavier doses, while very weird, are more interesting and can be very intense.

With a lighter dosage I get strong euphoria, become very social. Some of the best aspects about lighter doses are an increased appreciation for music, and an enhanced sense of touch. Textures are very exaggerated and can be very pleasing to the touch.

*EDIT: I agree with Muscaria in that it can have a dark sinister feel at times.
To me, when the dose is heavy, it is so disorienting that you don't really know what emotions to feel, the experience is neutral. I would make this comparison to Salvia. Salvia is a neutral experience(IMO), but it can be so intense that it often will seem terrifying because there is no form of euphoria provided by the substance to assure the user that they will be alright.
