when you travel faster than the speed of light
time (for you) stops
so in theory you could go any where, any when

Yes, morphic resonance for instance.

Morphic resonance? Is that some kind of psuedo-scientific theory? Excuse me if it isn't but I have never heard of it before.

pretty much

Morphic resonance is a term coined by Rupert Sheldrake in his 1981 book A New Science of Life. He uses the expression to refer to what he thinks is "the basis of memory in nature....the idea of mysterious telepathy-type interconnections between organisms and of collective memories within species.

so if the universe is expanding at an increasing rate and happens to pass the speed of light, the universe theortically stops?

which begs the question, where does the universe want to go?

Nahhh, i think it's giant and still expanding.
Do you think everything in our universe has matter?
Nah
Do you think that time is relative?
It's not real but we need it to do our daily activities.
Do you think that there are other universes?
Yes.
Do you think that there is intelligent life somewhere else?
Yea
Do you think the human race will go extinct before we find aliens?
It's possible, but they might find us first. Then we'll freak out and kill them all because they r not teh welkome her.
Do you think we will ever colonize another planet?
Yes
Do you think something can go faster than the speed of light?
Probably
Do you think the universe will expand until everything is so far apart from each other that we will be completely isolated?
It's possible. The universe keeps expanding at an accelerated rate.

I had something in mind to place here.

we don't know yet, but I'm sure there is a way to get around the speed of light
just like at one time we couldn't surpass the speed of sound, but now we do it daily

The universe expands at a rate faster than the speed of light.

Yup, related to the sense of being stared at.

Sheldrake's concept has little support in the mainstream scientific community. Members of the scientific community consider Sheldrake's concept to be unfalsifiable and therefore scientifically faulty. Thus outside the scope of main stream science, the concept Morphic field falls into the realm of pseudoscience.

Do you think there is a limit to how big our universe is?
No and Yes. I think once the universe stretches out too far it will have a rubber band effect and go back to being compressed how it was originally. Just a guess though. I am no scientist.

Do you think everything in our universe has matter?
Nope, look at space, its an empty vacuum

Do you think that time is relative?
Relative to our brains yes.

Do you think that there are other universes?
Yes, if there is one here why can't their be another one.

Do you think that there is intelligent life somewhere else? There has to be SOMETHING somewhere. There is too many planets to say there isn't another one.

Do you think the human race will go extinct before we find aliens?
Who knows. We'll probably kill each other before we do anything significant.

Do you think we will ever colonize another planet?
Doubtfully, too much resources will be used just for one trip

Do you think something can go faster than the speed of light?
Well considering light has INFINITE energy it is pretty hard to break it. (Meaning no, physically you can't because what is greater than infinite?) IF you get more infinite then what would that be? You would probably stop time itself.

Do you think the universe will expand until everything is so far apart from each other that we will be completely isolated?

Well I already think we are pretty isolated from everything else as it is. But this is a good question.

I'll say proof that something can go faster than the speed of light is skype, I mean, for now it is just information that goes faster than the speed of light.
I also believe since universe means everything that exists there can't be something that has a multiverse, since even if it is it is still a part of the universe.

And the universe is infinite, completely infinite.

well they say that the universe is 13.7 billion light years in radius

Who is 'they'?  Modern astrophysicists say the universe is about 100 billion light years across (50 billion radius).

Remember guys, relativity says that information cant go faster than light.  If something can go faster than light then it must not be able to carry any information (like the universe expanding faster than the speed of light).

If you want to claim that we could break the light barrier then you must bring up the point of causality.  If a particle can go faster than light then cause and effect break down to where effects happen before causes.  In stead of pulling a trigger and then somebody dieing they would die before you pull the trigger - not as an optical illusion  but as a physical reality.  That is what you are suggesting when you say we could travel faster than light.

energy has no mass

I haven't read this whole thread so if this has already been pointed out, nevermind.

But energy DOES have mass. In fact, it IS mass.

If you compress a spring (put energy into it) its mass will increase.

Charge a battery, elevate a weight, wind a clock, heat water, accelerate a car, or do anything that adds energy to a massive object, its mass will increase.

This is basic physics.

Most definitely.  We're too far from them and I don't think humans will ever develop the technology to teleport instantly across the universe.

You should publish a paper on your groundbreaking statement which refutes all major observations.  I know from other threads that you are an expert in politics, economics and sociology - I didnt know you were so versed in astrophysics as well.

They think the universe went through an 'inflationary period'
shortly after the big bang, that may have puffed the universe up
at a rate faster than the speed of light, but no one can be sure

Quote:
A team of scientists says it has determined a value for the Hubble constant — the universe's expansion rate — using a new method that combines data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and ground-based radio telescopes. The group finds a Hubble constant of 48 miles per second per 3.26 million light-years (77 kilometers per second per 3.26 million light-years).

Hubble's constant is not the rate of expansion of the universe.  Look at its units - they are not velocity.  Hubble's constant is used to determine how fast objects within the universe are expanding from us.  Objects expand away proportional to the distance they are away (hubble's law) - if they are close they move slowly away if they are far they move quickly away.  At a particular distance (determined by hubble's constant) they move the speed of light away and further than that they move faster than the speed of light away. (This does not violate relativity for the reasons I posted before)

I'm pretty sure that this phenomenon you speak of is an illusion
Every where we look everything is flying away from us

:omgz: We must be at the center of the universe again :voila:

I'd bet that if you were on a galaxy on the 'edge' of the universe
everything would appear to be moving away from you too

the funny thing is there is no way to prove this theory.
yea every thing appears to be moving away
but is it really doing that or does it just appear that way :strokebeard:
