almost no1 is contributing their stats to this stite therefore the sample size is incredible small making the stats insanely inaccurate

seems like a waste of website 2 me :shrug:

I went there thinking I'd find information and statistics about the drug war, or maybe laws pertaining to drugs.





How many people do drugs is entirely pointless data.

The maps are color coded according the respondents replies to the "number of times.." field in the questionnaire. They don't say that less than 8 people* have used that substance. Instead, the maps convey our understanding of less than 8 uses* in this region this year. This is of course based on how many times the questionnaire for that region has been taken.

Very legitimate concerns. Thank you all for your constructive criticism. DopeStats serves as an index to the black market (and white) drug transactions, all the while it is meant to raise drug use awareness. Provided that respondents answer truthfully, the averages reported by this system can prove to be very accurate and relevant to the people in those specific counties. In theory, if respondents took the survey each time they used a substance, then the bigger usage numbers (or the number of uses) should give people a good idea as to how accurate the other statistics are (the avg prices, total cost, etc).

Realistically though, most will not do this every time they use a substance. This system is designed to allow both retroactive entries, and everyday use entries. The main point of this all is to raise drug use awareness. Google or Bing "marijuana use in Meade county Kentucky". There isn't much relevant (and current) information about marijuana use in that county other than maybe one or two stories that made the news. And lets face it, we all know there is probably more than meets the eye there. And then there are all the other less known substances like the legal Salvia. And that's probably because that local level of government isn't going to do that sort of continuous activity. Not to mention the question of legality/trust between the gov't and people who willingly admit to using an illegal substance. DopeStats is based around the idea that the numbers we call drug use statistics for a nation must be a collective effort of the people to raise awareness in their own communities.

There may not be enough traffic or respondents right now, but being in my last year in college and taking over the management of the family business as my father passed away last year, I can only do so much. This entire thing was all a one man show and really didn't take much to do, but to make it really work and be useful it requires a massive amount of information. The system is there, now it is time for people to take action if they really want relevant information. A big part of the reason for the lack of information on DopeStats is due to low traffic. It usually has around 100 people/day now with Shroomery Sponsorship. When I run Adwords that number goes to around 250-400. People are not aware this exists. Even with over 300k pages indexed, DopeStats only sees probably 10-25 people/day from Google. I have done a bit of advertising, marketing, PR, and lots of SEO, but DopeStats still needs a bigger entity to shed some national or at least regional attention. If this had more quality links to it, then people would be getting exactly what they ask for when they enter those types of queries in the search engines. I contacted Comcast about starting a national Ad campaign, and this is what they wrote:

A good start would be to clean up the general purpose algorithms used by search engines in ranking their pages. PageRank may be unique/patented, but intuition tells me that most other competitors got on ball with that scheme. This is by no means an easy task, but the leaders of the 21st century should know that people want relevant information when they ask for something. Sometimes the most relevant information is the information that no one is pointing to..

It is tedious to have to do it this way, but that's only because people use many substances in any one given day. Think of the current drug surveys out there. First off, you have the choice of whether or not you want to participate (as you do with DopeStats). Secondly, should you choose to take the survey this would normally take you say 5 minutes (we'll call that a minimum time). In five minutes you could have taken the DopeStats survey 10 or so times, and could cover many dates in which you've used a substance. Lastly, please read these articles about current drug use statistics:
