I couldn't find any either.  I think your best bet would be paying online.  The suppliers that sell agar and p. dishes seem to be mostly 'academic' affiliated.  There's a bounty of supplies on ebay as well.  Just open up a paypal account or go to walmart and buy one of those prepaid cards.  You just spend however much you want on it and it transfers to the card.  There's a small fee, but I don't think it's any more than 5 dollars.  Then you can use it just like you would a credit card in most cases.

Go make friends with someone working in one of the labs of the biology department at your nearest university. You can get all sorts of stuff for free, including petri dishes and several dozen types of agar.
