Full Metal Alchemist..........the tale of a boy who seeks ultimate enlightenment

does anybody else see the drug parallels with this anime?
for one thing the whole point of the story is al and his bro are searching for
the philosophers stone
which is a truffle similar to shrooms
and when you sacrifice a part of your body through alchemy you see "the truth"
i regard this as losing your ego and discovering the truth which lies beyond the body
in one of the episodes he was stranded on an island until he figured out what
"one is all, all is one" meant
the whole concept of alchemy is very shroomlike
you take something and turn it into something else with equal number of atoms
thats basically the circle of life
the atoms which make up our body were originally forged in the cores of ancient stars
we are all one, and one is all
we all come from the same place and are all headed to the same place as well
we have more in common with each other than differences
just like how our dna is 98% equivalent to other species
and there are the homunculus
they represent the deadly sins
so they are always holding you back from enlightenment
anybody else see this?

:rofl2: lol I've been watching the new Fullmetal Alchemist series and having very similar thoughts.

Like most things which appear to be parallels to psychedelic stuff, I'm chalking this up more to chance and open-mindedness on our parts than the actual intentions of the writers, but then again you never know. I think the bottom line is, wisdom actually doesn't change much no matter how you get to it. I'm not sure it's still wisdom by the time it gets into a Japanese kids' (?) show, but it's certainly still recognizable.

Anyway, some of the philosophy in that show is definitely shroom-similar. Like you said, the all is one idea ...

Good show :thumbup: -- and I'm saying that as someone who normally despises anime.

I dunno if I see exactly what you are talking about; the philosopher's stone being similar to shrooms,
but I do recognize the fact that this show has many parallels with life itself and many of those are revealed through hallucinogenics
I also have seen this fact in several animes.
the reason I like anime is because it is more than just cartoons. It is like a story that has its lessons and themes that everyone can relate to.
