just got a purple bud

I have seen purple buds before, but I was surprised to come across this nug. Supposedly the stuff is called Hawaiian Thai... Anyone know why some buds look purple? The two buds in the picture are the same strain. Can someone explain this odd phenomenon?

just in the genetics , some of the strains i grow turn purple when its winter here ,due to the cold temps...doenst really mean shit ,but it looks pretty

Purple buds are like having blue eyes or something. It's just a gene.

There is no connection between color and THC content.

Some plants have purple leaves, some plants have purple calyxs, some plants have both, some plants have none.

One of the best books I have ever read, was "Marijuana Botany" by Robert Clarke. It has all that information, including tons of information on how to cultivate, clone, breed, etc. You could breed purple pot if you want.

I read it front to back, and had many successful grows!

as jacktharipper said it's also from a cold weather environemnt.  If i had to guess I would say this is the case of the buds u posted.  My last grow I had some buds that were half purple and half green.  I make that opinion based on the other two buds you posted that look regular green.

Yea I didn't think the color had anything to do with potency, I was thinking it had something to do with the climate or genetics but wasn't sure which. It's definitely not mold though

Yes, I think purple bud is very exotic. If you walk out into the wilderness and see something purple, it's usually toxic.

The color purple reminds me of potency.

Every other time I have seen purple buds, it was always mids. This is the first time seeing purple weed that's good quality. The buds are extremely sticky and have a rich, christmas tree scent to them.
