Oysters? And an uhmmmm?

Habitat:
Western Washington, growing on dead maple.

Gills:
White, growing somewhat down stumpy stem.  Fairly spaced.

Stem:
Thick and short, off-center, polypore style.

Cap:
Whitish in younger specimines, turning to light brown in older.  Some of the older ones were up to 8+" in diameter.  It's been raining pretty hard the last couple days here, and they were somewhat hygrophorous.

Spore print color:
In progress.  So far I'm seeing no spores, either cause it's white on white, or the rain washed them out :smile:

Bruising:
None observed

Other information:
Waterboarding, the new summer X-Games sport!




Habitat:
Western Washington
From the ground, pushing up through moss, ivy and ferns.

Gills:
Dark brown to black.

Stem:
Fairly thin, about 6" in length.  White at top and bottom, browning in the middle.

Cap:
Bell shaped, I didnt see any that opened fully.  Striated, cinnamon brown. 1" disameter, 1.5" tall.

Spore print color:
Got destroyed shortly after picture.  Assuming dark brown/black/grey from gill color.

Bruising:
None observed, although I did think about bruising my dog for ripping through my photo-session.

Other information:
The Mini-Sirloin burgers from Jack in the Box aren't all that great.


Any thoughts on these?  I'm really interested in the "oysters" since there are a TON of them out back from my house.  The other one is just kinda cool looking :smile:

i thought it was called wakeskating ie the new x-games sport. waterboarding is something they did at guantanamo bay to get people to talk:shocked:

Mica cap seems pretty close for sure.  The only thing that makes me question is that they were numerous, but not really growing in clumps like most of the documentation suggests they do.  That and just from the pictures, the stipe seems a lot thicker than the ones I saw.  Perhaps I just had fully mature ones?

Anyway, I'm excited about the oysters.. The ones that are there now are past their prime, but I know where to look now ! :smile:

Waterboarding doesn't happen anymore, torture is something the republicans did.  Democrats just ask really nice.

Trust me, its them.  I have seen hundreds of thousands of these, they are all the same.

I'm getting conflicting info on edibility of the Mica's.  Have you tried them?

I've eaten mica caps a few times with no ill effects but they were nothing special and reports of mild poisonings are out there... why bother when you have such nice oysters.

"Inky Caps" are only good to eat when the gills are still white.  They deteriorate very quickly.
