Hmm, they are a pinnacle of classic rock, yet back-burnered much like Deep Purple or some of the greatest Prog artists. I haven't ever seen them live, I refuse to support ticket master.

I agree with the ticket master thing, seeing a show is such a fucking chore now, and it's hardly even fun anymore :frown:

Regardless, I like good live music, which is hard to find these days.

They are amazing live musicians, DEFNITILEY see them while you have the opportunity.  They've put on some of the best shows i've seen/heard...

Nothing like tripping and hearing a mind-melting whipping post.

Hey man, I know you'll enjoy the shit out of it, great musicianship and such a tight live band.  I hope the LA vibe is as good as the east coast.  They always tear up the Beacon in NY every march.

Am I the only one who doesn't like these guys? They are so-so to sub par. I have never seen them live but considering I don't like their music I'm not about to seek them out any time soon. To be fair, I think Mountain Jam is awesome off of "Eat a Peach". But when they pipe up it just lays me flat and not in the good way.

If I go to the Dead in The Gorge I'm not going to ignore them though.

If you have the chance to see them, take it.  I've seen them 12-13 times now and every time has been great.  I've already got tickets to their 3 North Carolina shows with Widespread Panic.  :awesome:

I was going to see the Dead, but I've heard the new sets are kind of half assed and not even worth attending.

Saw them last week, they didn't half ass anything.  The weak point in the show was birdsong which was just too drawn out, nice and mellow but too long.  I think they've grown exceptionally tight with Warren and they have some really good chemistry going.

I heard that too but last night I listened to the Spectrum shows and they seemed to be pretty good throughout. FAR better than Dark Star Orchestra btw (what a waste). Though when I heard Hayes butchering "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" I immediately skipped it.

WOW I have to check this one out. I love how everyone is reviving the old dead seeing as 67-71 is my favorite (at the moment at least). The two Dead cover bands I went to see did some old stuff too but too bad they couldn't capture it very well.

Yeah I pretty much agree. I downloaded a TON of shows and it seems like ALL the old shows are badass (as long as I can hear them) and the post Pigpen stuff can also be excellent, but there can be a lot of weak shows where they are just trudging through, throwing out "singles" almost.

Maybe you caught Dark Star on an off night, they've always blown me away.  I saw this show and this was very old school sounding, VERY good show with spine chilling moments.
