outdoor shroom garden / bug problem

i recently made an outdoor garden ;
mostly for straw logs, oysters

it was doing ok for a while. i've already harvested 2 lbs of pearl oyster. but the recent burst of heat has brought on some new challenges. one is the RH but i'm resolving that with the addition of some plastic and possibly digging it into the ground. but my question is about pests.

the first harvest revealed these small black and red beatle like bugs but they weren't damaging the fruits. nothing a little water and shaking couldn't handle, so i figured they may keep away others. now the 3rd crop has been attracting tiny gnat like flys. these guys are eating the shit out of it.

has anyoneexperienced this or know of any remmidies? i'm not opposed to some pesticidal fixes but would perfer organic fixes.

how do some outdoor cultivators set up straw logs, laundry baskets to avoid pests? it seems maintaining high RH makes for a perfect nesting place for bugs. i was looking to make it larger but with a bug problem, forget it.

please help soon. i have 3 more logs ready to go. i'd hate to have done all that work for nothing.

Not a lot of people do logs and baskets outside I think...I am sure there are some natural, safe pest prevention products available if you can identify the particular pest(s) in question.

I have no experience in outdoors, but just off the top of my head, hanging some sticky fly strips that you can get at most any convenience store may cut down on the numbers :tongue2: or maybe you could buy a can of that "fly barrier spray" they have at walmart, you just spray around where you dont want the flies to go, and they stay away for the most part.:)

we used to rub citronella oil on our dogs ears during the summer months to ward off flies. not sure if that would be a viable option, just a thought.

thanks for the ideas. i'm wondering if the usual products will hurt the myc.

i'm not sure about the worms, justme, i find a lot of worms in the yard and in some seemingly odd places. a few made there way into my straw logs but didn't seem to do any harm. maybe a bird was stashing them in the planters.

unless it was one of those Nicholas Cage type worms. when the bird caught him, the worm could have stabed the bird in the tongue. after being freed he flattened himself out and steered through the fall, purposely landing in the planter to hide out in the foliage. he's probobly waiting for the bird to come back to over-theatrically avenge his family, who were horrifically minced up and spit out only to be digested by the birds children. i mean if i were a worm that's what i would do. wouldn't you?:biggrin:
