burning DvDs

I'm new to this.. is there a faster way?

I'm using WMP and it's taking like ~3-4 hours to burn a DVD.. would Nero or something be faster?

It's a 4x DVD burner, I believe.

yea, i can burn a dvd in less than 15 minutes. Use Nero. Even at 1x you shouldn't be burning that show.

Slow burn times sometimes depends on a few factors, such as cheap disc's, cheap burner, crappy computer, or bunk software, such as WMP.

are you trying to rip a dvd, then copy it? or are you just burning an image, or files from your computer? if you are trying to do a full copy somehow, then it might take that long if it needs to compress/process the video first.

also note that burning a cd on 52x vs 1x will often show tremendous differences in quality or durability.

Yeah I was just burning straight from files on the PC... and it spends like half the time encoding. fucking WMP. Gonna try Nero..

Actually I'm gonna use Alcohol 120% since I didn't even realize I still had that..

Then d/l Roxio 10

use dvd decryptor to rip dvd's to hard drive, then use dvd shrink to encode them if needed (a retail dvd is usually dual layer, 8+gb, and your dvd-r's are about half that)  it's been awhile, but i think they even have the option to burn.

If you have the time, use the best encoding possible. It will take much longer, but it will keep your dvd's from getting too many squares or a digital look.  This is very important on some movies like the matrix, or the first one i noticed was saving private ryan. It will ruin the dvd. I'd like to go blue ray in the future, but for now it's just not practical

I tried roxio back in the day, but always found nero to be a little better. It has gone down hill in the past few years. I havent tried roxio in awhile.      I'm using linux now anyway, so it's not much of an issue.

There's a program out called "AnyDVD"... It installs as a driver and immediately strips copy-protection.

VERY cool!

Although, I still like Magic DVD Ripper best.

I'm not burning DVDs on any regular basis to warrant a new drive.. plus its a laptop.

I'm just gonna use Alcohol since I have that and people say good things. Nero is all bloated from what I remember.

Sweet! But still a laptop, which might explain why it's so damn slow at burning DVD's.

My desktop can rip an 8 gig movie and burn it on a DVD+R DL in ~40 minutes!

Sweet.

Alcohol 120 -> Convert Avi to Iso -> burn to disc

Total time: ~4 minutes.

No loss in quality from what I can tell :awesome:
