Phish's Live CD's are far from Dick's Pick's. Dick makes complimations, Phish made complete sound boards of complete live shows available to fans. Dick's Pick's would contain a variety of live GD shows complied into a 3 disc set. Phish releases 3 disc shows and sometimes if the 3rd set is to short they'll add a few songs on the last set from different shows. Alot differernt from the mixes Dick Lativa made.

Also its hard to find a good sound board show of Phish's shows sometimes, I don't mind paying my 20$ for a smokin show personally.

Personally I've never really enjoyed Phish's studio music. My favorite would have to be the Story of the Ghost or Billy Breathes tho, love the ocean funk. I can't stand farmhouse besides First Tube its just to god damned poppy for me. Junta is bad ass probably more musical than any other Phish album but the live versions just blow all those songs away so I've never gotten into it to much. I don't think I've heard hoist but 2, 3 times maybe.

Hahah man you got it exactly-livephish cd 10 veterns memorial auditorium. That simple song is amazing, I especially like the 'save your life' part. It makes me think that the reason I bought the cd was to save my life. This girl in one of my classes said she liked them a lot and was going to see anastaciao?sp? So I bought the cd... because of the girl hehe. =)

I like the studio albums because they are mastered and to me, they are the stones of their music.

Their live music is like taking the stones and carving them up. Because you will never know when they will jam or bust loose. Thats the magic behind Phish. The unexpected expected....

I have this kick ass ' Free bird' that they did accapella. On that same show they did this excellent ' Divided Sky' that had echoes....That show was kick ass! Too bad it is only on tape. :frown:

dude, the phish thing is pretty much over I think. I mean sure, i'll still go to shows, but they are way popular now, and drawing in even more of a younger "trendy" crowd. my only hope is the music gets to them, before they ruin the scene.

The Dead had the same problem after their mid-70's haitus. Many people thought it was the end of the Dead as they knew it and it was, because they ripped shit up like never before. Many people started their dead headom out as going to shows for a free for all party with drugs, if the music is strong enough it will get to them.
I think this first tour is going to be really bad with rats and frats and we can only wait and see what will happen. Pretty much the entire scene is a piece of shit with these people you don't like, doesn't take long for a load of wookies to hop on a tour of the cheepest Phish knockoffs ..cough.. particle .. cough...

Either way I don't really care since 99' I haven't really been into the scene much, I still go to shows but stay out of the lots and mind my own business. To many shady people out to rip you off and to many plain salty people that will just ruin my mood. I still check out a few shows on the up coming tour and I'll probably havea hell of a time. To keep this scene for some elite underground crowd is more disturbing that whats going on right now to me anyways.

Is that a halloween show?

I'm going to buy that and the bonnaroo DVD right now, but since I live in boondocks, Ia I have to drive an hour just to get to a CD store.

No my show is not a Halloween show...

Freezing Penguin, dont put doubts into the Phish community.
Everyone there is for the music. The music draws people; people and people have interests; interests breed intuition and then come the drugs...AND that shouldn't be the down fall of the shows. True there are a lot of sketchy people there, but never have I seen these people inside the venues...WOOKIES!!

I am giving the band some time to weed out the little teenie-boppers...

Anyone care to do B+P? for some shows?

I'm going to get flamed for this, but...I've only heard a few tracks by phish..let's see..You Enjoy Myself..Rift..Farmhouse..some of the Darkside of the Moon cover (which I thought was great)..Is it just me or can the lead singer not sing at all? I can definately appreciate their music...it's just that singer. That being said I can imagine they would be really great to see live.

Thier shows are very visual to see as well as experience.
Find out for yourself. Watch Bittersweet Motel and have a peek at what they are live.

I understand where you?re coming from but he really, really can sing. You may not like his voice but he can definitely harmonize with the band and the music.

">Someone expain to me what a Phish show is like."

I...replied back with this, I know that it may not exactly match
everyone's (anyone's?) idea of Phish, or a show, but it describes my
experiences to a "T".

<---Snip!--->

Ok

Imagine you're content with the world, nothing bothers you, you're
floating
on a cloud...

The same for thousands of others surrounding you.

You feel a strong energy eminating from the crowd, you don't know how
to
describe it, but it feels natural.

Your gut feels nervous, you jump at every shadow on the stage...the
sun is
out, air is hot, and the crowd is thick...

...and you're waiting.

Finally four of the geekiest motherfuckers walk out on the stage. Two
of
them are weilding axes, the others sit at their instruments.

The roar of the crowd is deafening, you're afraid that you won't be
able to
hear the band once they start.

Trey scrapes the strings on his guitar and in a fraction of a second,
your
mind is blasted into another universe, a solar system of sound,
comprised
of melodic planets and rhythmic moons. Trey and Page dogfight for the
lead
line, keyboards fighting guitar, Fishman holds down the groove on the
drums, and Mike bounces back and forth with the bass.

The shit is on fire..., everyone's going crazy, you've never heard the
introduction to "Free" jammed out this hard before, at least you don't
think you have. Trey is going NUTS! He has a huge smile behind his
beard
and his fingers are in hyperdrive as they GLIDE along the fretboard of
his
custom guitar.

Page is lost in his own world, his head is down as his fingers punch
the
keys of his Grand Piano, Hammond B-3 Organ, Moog synth, Fender Rhodes
electric piano(da funk baby), and Yamaha synth. His right hand
resembles
Trey's nimbly plucking out a melody, and his left resembles
Fishman's...drumming the low end of the 88s.

Fishman watches the rest of the guys for changes and doesn't let up
for a
second. Occasionally leading them into his own world with his jazz
drumming.

Mike stands still, forever earning his nickname "Cactus". He slaps,
pops,
and picks his bass strings....coaxing grooves out of the ether, bass
growls
which would make Bootsy Collins green with envy.

They've left the recognizable structure of the song and have ventured
into
a realm of space-funk. You forget where you're at, you get lost in the
music, and once you have completely lost your mind...they start back
into
the vocals

"I'm floating in the blimp a lot....."

then in a fury of blazing sound, the song is over and another
starts...people are screaming...you realize that you have a huge smile
on
your face.

You look behind you and smile at everyone, and you know that everyone
there
feels the exact same way you do, and it dawns on you that there are
very
few situations in your life like this one. All life's problems are
gone,
you hear all four voices in unison:

"We've got it simpleeeeeee....cuz we've got a band!"

And you're like "FUCK YEAH WE DO!, and they're right here!!!"

By set-break you're ready to quit your job and follow these boys
forever.
You grab a beer and hotdog, maybe buy some glowsticks so that you can
get
your hand-jive on later. You make best friends with people you don't
know,
you share road and show stories with people, everyone there is your
friend,
no one is angry, or agressive....for three hours, there is an oasis of
peace in the world.

Second set, time for the extended space jams, second set is all about
the
groove....this is where you'll REALLY forget what songs they're
playing. If
you're lucky, fans in the lawn will start a "glow-stick war", which is
one
of the most amazing things I've seen. Thousands of glow-sticks flying
at
high speed through the night air. Like technicolor shooting stars
right
above your head.

The boys end the show with a fan favorite, never once letting you
down.

The crowd roars until the boys come back out, then the roaring gets
louder....some of the guys will make comments, serious, thankful and
crazy.

You know that there is no place else to be in the world...

The encore wraps it up and sends everyone out to the parking lot
smiling.

You buy a grilled-cheese and beer from a hippie-chick in the lot, find
your
friends and push on 'til the day to the next show, expecting yet
another
night of Nirvana.

The reason that Phish is so high-energy, compared to mainstream bands,
is
because 90% of the people there LOVE Phish. There isn't anybody there
who
is coming to hear the latest hit song on the radio, and then be bored
with
the rest of the show. Every note is an orgasm, every drum beat is
passion.

Phish is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<---Snip!--->

Like I said, you may not agree with any or all of this, but this is
what Phish is to me, and this is how I described it to my Phishless
friend.
