So should I hate my brother-in-law?
    #9867861 -

It has just been revealed that my brother-in-law has been having an affair on my sister for the past couple of months.  They have been married for 8 years and have a 6 year old daughter together.  They are getting a divorce and it looks like he is going to stick with this chick he was having an affair with

The thing is that yes, I am mad at the guy, more for hurting my niece than my sister, but I can't hate the guy like the rest of my family does.

He has been a great husband and father for eight years, and it is hard to judge him for a slip up after all that time.  Plus, from a man on man point of view, I think he is fukt up in the head from the type of sex he hasnt experienced in years.  I know my sister and my brother-in-law and I know without even hearing it said, he is unhappy with their sex life.  I am sure my sister in not a freak in bed, and I know that is what he wants.

I am conflicted, I want to punch him in the face, I want to understand him in the way that love can fade, priorities can change, what we think we want one year (or day) can change.

What would you do?

It sucks to hear (and even say) but let it ride for the sake of your niece and family stability.

I know that's awfully casual and easy for me to say, but in the long run, you'd be doing the right thing.

In general I think there is a lot going on in people's relationships nobody ever sees.

Sounds like you are viewing the situation from a very rational perspective IMO.  Everybody has there faults, sure you want to support your sister but in the end usually breakups occur as a result of both peoples actions.

Good for you.

Who knows why he did what he did.

Demonizing him is only going to hurt the little girl.
