Tattoo design. Artist help needed.

So since my sleeve project is pending design, I am looking to get my first tattoo to get my feet wet. I don't even know what a tattoo feels like, so I figure maybe I should start a bit smaller than a sleeve. Gotta start somewhere!

I have been working on this for my back/side center/off-center not sure...
I saw a post recently about the coexist logo too, I liked it before that but I think it fits perfectly with the theme of this tattoo. It is also the theme I want my body to have which is positive and negative energy with psy/eco/geo/mech/tech/bio overtones.

This tattoo depicts the daughter of nature, bestowed upon her is a world in turmoil. The forces of positive and negative are apparent, she leaves the choices up to us. I have modified it a bit, changed the eyes from closed to open (from and Audrey Kawasaki painting), and I adjusted the nose a bit. These things are in my range of skill, but my illustration/freehand drawing skill is not that good. That is why I am asking for a little design help here. I know tat artists can do it but most of them don't have the style I am looking for.

What I would like to do now is a vector/mandala type ring 3/4 of the way around her again leaving the bottom open, playing off the positive and negative theme. I want it to resemble this image, which reminds me of my first Salvia breakthrough. Vortexs/Suns/Moons/Dark/Light

I tried to find a nice vector of an earth, and I also tried to make my own vector... I'm still very bad at that. Self taught. :frown:
So I used a photo for now to get the idea.

I would also like the bird on her left (your right) shoulder to be an ominous black/dark bird (Crow or Sparrow?)

If anyone would like to aid me in help with my design it would be very much appreciated! Insight and ideas would be helpful. Adrug and HB come to mind, my artists here. <3

The original image comes from a www.thegiantpeach.com ad, credit goes to the artist named Goad.

Here is my version I have been working on.

I included a nice chill track to get you in the mood!

From an experienced tattoo recievee, you can't do the first one.
You have to remember after about 5 years the ink is going to blot a little under your skin, you can't make small details like that, just not gonna happen.

Depending on how you take pain you might wanna start small or large, upper arm feels ok, back not too bad, chest hurts like a mfer, stomach hurts, thighs arent bad (ive heard from girls) and feet kinda hurt.
I would start with at tops a 6 inch tall by like 4 wide maybe, if you can start without color you may wanna just see how you feel about it. After a while you kinda go numb from the buzzing but there is some pain involved. Don't do a sleeve off top, no one does that unless you're in prison or just dont feel anything.
Best bet is make a design that can later fit into a sleeve, non colored work the best for that, you can always fill it in later.

I agree with you somewhat about the detail and clouding of the ink, I was mostly showing the image to give an idea of the style and design type. I am not really concerned about the pain, I'm sure it hurts though. I will admit needles aren't my favorite thing in the world.

I guess the amount of detail also depends on the artist.

guy atchison is nasty... his bio mech stuff is out of control.

im best friends with a bunch of tattoo artists and i spend a LOT of free time in his shop so I have a very good idea of realistic expectations and what needs to be done to make it come out right so ill give you my $.02

how big do you want your tattoo to be? if you want detail its going to need to be big, esp if you want a detailed earth. like ganja said over time ink spreads, mainly outlines. outlines will spread and color will fade obviously. All the pictures are do-able. If you want that first one, is it going to be a back piece? like how it's a shirt... is that going to be how big it actually is on your body? if so its completely possible but bear in mind... in 10 years that detail wont be there.

im a fan of the last image. the coexist w/ the earth. i can definitely see that being a nice back piece... like taking up majority ofyour back with the coexist being around your lower to mid back. that would be nice. how big do you want to go is the important question. once you know how big, you know how detailed, and all the other important things.

Thanks for the help, I am thinking that the tattoo would be around the actual size of the image here 12x12 or something.

The shirt I posted is to give an idea of the detail or ring I described I would like around "daughter nature".

Kinda like this, with the T-shirt design.

i'm actually working on my sleeve. it takes a LONG time. i go about every 2-3 weeks for more. i'm on session like 6.. each one  is anywhere from 3-5 hrs.

he charges me by how much he gets done which is nice so i am pleasantly surprised quite often when its less than i expect.
