So a friend of mine is just right this very moment claiming he (or a FOAF) has mushroom "cakes" for sale. I am assuming this is some form of baked good and NOT your standard PF-tek verm/brf cake. A few weeks ago some different friends had little chocolaty mushroom treats which did them pretty well.
Can mushrooms be baked into a cake mix? Wouldn't the heat of the oven break down the psilocybe and other alkaloids? How does it work with little chocolate treats (which I have heard plenty about, but never tried).
My friend is eating one right now, so when I go over to his place in a few hours he will probably be able to tell me how it is. But I wanted to get some advice here first before I spend money that I'd rather spend on some nugs.
what is the temperature at which you bake a cake? i'd guess 350 degrees F which is way too hot to be using on mushrooms. the chocolate treats are usually melted chocolate on mushrooms. that would be a much lower temperature and should have less negative effects.
A few of my buddies make chocholate pudding and in a Ice cube tray they divide up the mush into 1 gram per cube. They pour the pudding over the mush and freeze. it is like a mushroom fudgesicle! they usualy cut them in half and eat them up. I have never tried it but it apparently tastes good and since there is no heat, no heat damage. I don't know if cold does anything to them though, I don't think so.
