Im going to be building one of these. This is what I have so far.


Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core
BIOSTAR TPower I45 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Now, the MO says memory standard 240 pin DDR2 1200. Im wondering if DDR2 1066 is better or even compatible. I though maybe since they are both 240 pin DDR2. Would you go with 2GB 2x1GB or 4GB 2x2GB

Why do you need a $550.00 processor for a HTPC? Save that money for a bigger hard drive.

lol, seriously.  An HTPC could run off of a 1.8 GHz athlon from 1999 (I know, cause thats what mine had until last summer).  I now use a ~$50 processor, X2 3800.

Both your processor and mobo are WAY overkill for the purposes of playing audio and high def video files.  Their computing potential will just sit there unused. 

You want the complete opposite for a HTPC.  The lowest processor, and a small microATX mobo.  You want to keep it cool and quiet.

I have two gigs of RAM in my HTPC right now, and dont even really need that much.

I will be playing games on this as well. What do you recommend then? I dont want a laggy system. I was also thinking of getting this case, although its 500 fucking dollhairs!
