I hate to say it but I'd trust a female television celebrity before Id trust an internet one because do you know what/who some of these woman have to do to get a lousy little part to make their entrance into the tv/movies?

I know all celebs are given a bad rep, but you got to realize thats mostly media... kinda like they make pot look like a horrible drug that is killing our children (even though no ones really been killed by it!).... Sure some are just assholes but why characterize everyone in that light? I mean yeah we have our own internet celebs here but I can garuntee you they dont make the same money... Either way both are given the power they have by the people who love them... stop supporting and theyve got shit. stop going to the movies and they'll be the ones fucked!

I like internet celebrities.  The internet is this vicious and visceral love/hate machine, so to be able to appeal to it in a way that you leave a mark and get some lols, I'd say that's quite the accomplishment, even if it is for something whimsical.

I don't think that's true. To be in television you have to subject yourself to many creativity and content barriers. Also, anything on television is concerned with profit and public reputation.
The internet on the other hand is much more authentic. The fact that anyone can produce what they want, without fear of insulting customers or employers means that whatever someone says is more genuine and real. Add that to the fact that the economic barriers are MUCH smaller for being on the internet and you get a more balanced and diverse group of people.
Think of how much money goes into just airing a 30 second commercial. or making and advertising a movie.

You dont think that internet celebs follow similar scripts??? Everything is made now! there are no "reality" shows.... on tv or on the internet! The ones that aren't are just lucky like the sundance film festival movies turned mainstream!

A black guy killed himself live on webcam with hundreds of viewers the other day. He became a interenet celebrity and was on the Newspapers. Sometimes trust is misplaced.

Yeah, with internet celebrities it is literally 15 minutes of fame.  I don't think internet celebrities intend to be internet celebrities when they become it.  It's just them expressing themselves and some things take off and some don't, and it's impossible to predict what will stick and what doesn't.  Internet celebrities are just memes exploited at the pleasure of the community, and then just recycled amongst the nuances and win recesses of the beast of tubes.

I think there's a difference between an internet fad (tay zonday, starwars kid, etc) and someone who actually builds and audience over time. although they never reach the zenith of fame that some internet meme would, they still command a lot of respect.
For instance, I'm subscribed to several accounts on youtube that regularly post new videos that entertain or enlighten. Some of these people have hundreds of thousands of subscribers who tune in every time that user has something to say.
I think blogs are similar too. Whatever topic you are interested in there are always several well-known, highly traveled blogs that can be considered experts on the subject, or at least have valued opinions to the internet community.
Also, I don't think that just because you make money your opinion is any lesser. People have to make a living, and if they make money talking about something they like or entertaining others, then that's fine. I just think that television is way more corporate and concerned with profit than the internet at the moment. Obviously everyone is trying to find ways to make profit on the internet, but at this point internet celebrities remain more trustworthy as the OP says.

Hardly.  Few do.  When did you see the Numa Numa guy or :partykid: get their own tv shows?  The only one who did spin off was that Tila Tequila girl, and she already had a band..but that doesn't count because of course a sluttly bi-asian girl who likes rock and roll and the gays is going to become popular, it's a recipe for success.

I think the internet will become the prime source of information and entertainment eventually though. Tv is on its way out.

Exactly my point!!! How much harder do the regular celebs have to work to become celebrities??? I know that didn't come off as sarcastic but it kinda was.... I get that internet people seems to be more "real" but at the same time thats because they don't have the money! Once they get the dollars thats when they become less real...but still try to act real...... They all start that way though.

Do you really think that Jennifer Aniston or Jack Black started out all hot shit? They only seem that way since they've been around since fucking the early 90's! If you think that these internet celebs will be here that long and be as grounded when they do make money, you are fucking deluded!
