I have a question about which drugs are and are not ok for me.
    #9287171 -

First off, I have a family history of scizophrenea. My father and my older brother were both diagnosed with it.

I used a lot of drugs in my late teens; just about everything except heroin. As I got older, two things happened:

1) I started to get a worried feeling in the back of my mind knowing that it is possible for me to develop the illness. It bothered me just wondering if I would be affected.

2) I matured enough to where I am more interested in working than I am in partying and using drugs.

These days, I drink socially and smoke about one or two hits of bud a month.

My question is, which drugs are okay to dabble in without increasing the risk of developing the illness?

MODS, please move this thread to Physical and Mental Well-Being as I will probably get better information there.

Ideally, none. Most recreational chemicals are known to exacerbate scizophrenia. However, if you've never been diagnosed, and don't feel particilarly apt to bouts of paranoia, or delusions, then you probably aren't at risk.

I'd especially stay away from psychedelics like LSD + shrooms.  If you have an underlying problem and are succeptible, they could easily trigger full blown schiz.  That's what happened to Brian Wilson, front-man of the Beach Boys.

Well, I don't know the official word but I'm only 24 so there is still a small chance that it could manifest. I'm not trying to take any risks here.

However, I would think that benzos and similar drugs of the sort would be alright as there is no "mind fuck".

Any suggestions for something nice with a nice body buzz and low addiction rate?

I'm not doctor or anything, but I would assume that if this was something you were destined for anyways - then chances are it's going to happen regardless of what you try to do to avoid it

just my two cents
