.... so what are you favorite books about not being an adult-- childhood or adolescence or whatever. 'cause they're always everyone's favorite books, i think. basically. ya know?

one. foxfire. joyce carol oates. girl gang novel. it's good. kind of. i'm not even sure if it's good or not. it was okay. i won't say it's 'good.' but it's okay. i'll say it's okay.

two. the bell jar. the second most obvious choice. i just read the book of sylvia plath letters. i forget the name of it. but it was letters to her mom and brother and such. i didn't read much past her getting married to the guy but the first half was good.

three. catcher in the rye. ....... nothing to say about it. everyone loves it. it's pretty good, i guess.

four. the virgin suicides. something eugenides. he wrote another book that was really stupid but i can't remember the name of it.

five. cat's eye. margaret atwood. it's not a great book but it's still, like, in my top 5 favorite books ever. because i really like it. actually. i don't really like it- no, i do. it's weird.

six. wilderness tips. stories by margaret atwood. really great. the ones about the kids at camps. i love those.

seven. the apprenticeship of duddy kravitz. by another canadian one, mordecai richler. satire slash coming-of-age story. jewish kid living in montreal, his quest for land and such. read it, please.

eight. stepping on the cracks. mary downing hahn. i wrote a book report on it in grade eight. it's good.

nine. the wall around eden. post-apocalyptic whatever slash coming-of-age story.

ten. the side of paradise. f. scott fitzgerald, yo. holdin' it down.

eleven. buxton spice. onya kempadoo. might have spelled that wrong. sexual awakening and stuff in guyana.

twelve. inheritance. indira something. i liked, it though.

now.......

you go.

My turn.

Catcher in the Rye. Salinger.  Obvious reasons.

Book of Knights.  Yves Meynard.  young boy on his quest to become a knight.  simply awesome!!

The Body.  Steven King.  The novella became the movie Stand By Me.

Hard City.  Clark Howard.  Boy growing up in chicago on the streets.  Presumed to be semi-autobiographical.

Chronicles of Narnia.  CS Lewis.  You all know The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Where the Wild Things Are. Maurice Sendak.  First book I remember reading.   Ahh, good old kindergarten.

And of course the Choose Your Own Adventure series.  LOL  I read them all until i had them memorized.

Thats it for now.  If I think of more I'll edit them in.

my love of Where The Wild Things Are as a child
was a preparation for my later years as a psychonaut...

as well as The Never Ending Story by Michael Ende

Hands Down It was Always
Piers Anthony - I particualry liked the Series with a "Swiftly Tilting Planet"
But the Number One Fave Childhood Read was :
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - R. Dahl.
I can still enjoy the book today. Where as Piers Anthony has lost is magic.

I like Piers Anthony as well but couldn't think of any particular books of his about children that I liked.  My fav was the Incarnations and Adepts series'.  Xanth was good but didn't hold my interest past book 6-7 or so.  Plus he had a lot of weird sex which was highly important to a 11-14 year old boy.
