Today already a rise of more then 80$$!!!!! per troy ounce of gold. Silver is also gone up more then a dollar. I guess everyone lost it and buying PM's by the masses. Could there be any other explanation for this sharp rise anyother then companies losing dollars and buying PM's??? I saw the start of the gaining of prices in the afternoon, rushed to the local coinshop and bought a few gold coins at a great price

partially because of AIG bailout, new rules on short selling (thank god,) and just general bad outlook for equities. hopefuly people are realizing equities are a sinking ship, and often completely bogus, and no amount of frivolous "bailing out" so to speak is going to save them.
many paper pushing "powers that be" would do anything they can to keep their equities up, but they can only do so much to convince people that a piece of paper with a promise is actually worth something more than a piece of paper with writing on it...
as more banks and businesses go under, and the "owners" of the the "paper promises" realize that "shit, they don't actually have what they promised to give" and are left without anything tangible, people are (thank god) losing faith in the equities market, as they should.
well, at least i hope it's true.

I wouldn't be so quick to hold such hopes. If the capital markets do fail, the ramifications will be widespread, affecting many more than the "powers that be" and the "owners of the paper promises".

I would love for a crisis to fix our problems, eliminate fiat money, and return us to a free market, but I doubt it would. Just look at the Great Depression. All that did was create even MORE social programs. We'll probably be a communist country if this market turmoil becomes severe enough.

You got that right... there's no doubt we're already at least partially socialist, but we'll probably become full-fledged communists if the shit really hits the fan. Eh comrade?

i completely agree. but I for one, am ready for a "trial by fire." i would like to see all the bull crap fall away to reveal the true face of the country.
I'm a young adult with no money tied up with stocks or equities and frankly, I personally have more to gain (long term) from a systemic melt down than to continue the garbage.
it seems people always want a "quick fix" and would rather take short term gains than bite the bullet and face reality!
eek.. im starting to rant D: lol but yeah... tired of the value superficial image has these days.
I'd love to get down to the nitty gritty

I kept my gold when it went down. I should have bought more. That's the only real money around. I think we are headed into a depression, perhaps bigger than the one in the 30's.

I bought a little bit more gold... about 30% on the dip, but I was too shaken up to buy more silver. That, and I already had a lot invested in PMs and wanted to diversify. Oh well, hopefully PM prices shoot right past where I bought them at about $880 an ounce for gold, and like $17 an ounce for silver. This time, though, I'm selling half my positions to lock in some profit.
