Neighbors stealing shit then claiming it as theirs

Okay, she's probably just confused...but my upstairs neighbor is psycho.  My roomie and I have this expensive ladder that we brought up from Texas and keep in storage down in the basement where all the other residents keep their shit too.  The basement is organized so that each unit has their own "space."  Well the other day, my roomie needed to use our ladder, so he goes down and sees it in the space of another tenant.  So he takes it out, and uses it...

...next thing we know we got a note on our door that says, "Make sure you put MY (underlined three times) ladder back where you found it." 

We were like, WTF?  So we took the ladder and moved it inside our apartment, because it is without a doubt ours, and wrote a note back that says, "Hey - you must be confused.  I've had this ladder ever since our first apartment.  The ladder came up with us from Texas." 

And that was it.  But now I'm kinda afraid.  My upstairs neighbor is a bitch.  She's always complaining about us to the other units and to the landlord and now this ladder incident happened...

...so now I'm just waiting for the fallout.  She really flips out if anything she considers "hers" goes missing or slightly out of place.  I'm locking my doors.

only apartmets with basement storage I lived in had assigned
spots that were caged, there was a hasp for a lock if you wanted
more security... wasnt too difficult to get into but it was
pretty evident if someone took your stuff

What, like a receipt or something?  No dude, it's just a ladder that moved with us when we moved.  It's been here as long as we have.  (2 years) During that time we've probably used it maybe once or twice...it hasn't seen much action.  For all we know she's been using it regularly and now thinks she owns it. 

But I'll be damned if I'm going to let her get away with claiming it.  I'm tired of people like her.

Not necessarily a receipt. Are there any markings on the ladder or oddities that she might not be aware of? Or are we talking a plain silver ladder?

That's a nice ladder. I figured you might have modified it somehow, adding to the sentimental value of it. Glow-in-the-dark stars would have been good. Your neighbors would definitely have noticed it in your pile first as well. :tongue:

She is, man.  At 3AM, I can hear her vacuuming and rearranging her furniture overhead - not strange in itself except she does it nightly.  She complains to the landlord that our apartment stinks (to be fair once we had a problem with odor on our enclosed porch from sick cats, but we took care of it - she keeps complaining about it though) and she threatens to move out often unless the landlord takes action; which usually consists of me getting a notice and a phone call.  It seems to be just a show because I do nothing different and somehow the matter is settled. 

Once someone moved a lawn chair of hers a few feet away from where it was, just to sit in it, and she flipped -- had a total cow. 


I'm just so tired of shit like this.  I live in a house full of bitches - 80% middle-aged women with nothing better to do then to bully the other residents.  They all talk shit about me and sometimes I feel like they're gaining up on me.  Maybe they're envious of my youth - I have no idea.  I do my best to be a considerate resident but if it's not one thing, it's another.  I'm just plain tired of it.  I have been thinking about moving anyway, so if she wants to go to war over the ladder, I'm fucking prepared - it's my fucking ladder.  I don't have anything to lose.  This place I'm living in is a dump anyway.

write your name on it with a marker somewhere not to obvious yet big enough that its there to warn people who's it is, then once its dry take some really fine sand paper to it to make it look aged, purhaps a little dirt as well.

if you do move, go to the store and buy one of them plastic ladders for kids and put her name on it down in the basement :lol:

Yeah, seriously.  It's in a wonderful location and I've really enjoyed the past two years here.  But - I shouldn't have to come home every night to constant snarky notes and drama.  It's just bullshit.  In the beginning I could tell that some of the women were like this, they were really pushy and nosy from the beginning, but it's just gotten worse and worse, until there is no pleasing them; it seems like they just don't like us living here.  We're the youngest tenants by about 10-15 years. 

There's this tree out in the yard, a huge beautiful tree, and my roomie hangs a punching bag out there for about 20 minutes a day while he beats on it.  He always takes it in when he's done, but can you believe some of the residents have a problem with him using the punching bag "right outside their window?"  Firstly, it's not "right outside their window;" it's at least a good 20 feet away, and secondly, it's a yard free for anyone to use.  20 minutes a day...not even everyday!  And yet they feel like bitching about it. 

Oh and everyone else is allowed to let their dogs run free around the yard EXCEPT me- I get a nasty note if I do, even though my dog is exceptional and never runs away or does anything wrong.  I nonetheless have been continuing my play with him out in the yard because I don't believe it's fair and those ninnies can go fuck right off.  :smile: 

Part of me wants to stay out of spite but I'm seriously concerned that one of them might be bold enough to get in my apartment.  It just doesn't feel like "home" anymore...

I'm just plain tired of being pushed around by people.  Yeah, I know I'm ranting here, but I'm taking a stand on this one.  My whole life I've been the type to passively just let people do/say/take whatever they want from and to me, but I've had it.  No more. 

It may SEEM like just a ladder, but it represents so much more then that to me at this time.
