Im not sure, i dont know my trees.

I also plan on getting better pictures of the dead trees next time, better pictures of them naturally on the log and better all around pictures of them from every angle.. I also want to get some younger specimen shots...

I thought i narrowed it down to gymnopilus sapineus  because it fit the key... but gymnopilus sapineus  is said to mostly fruits off of uhh... conifers and i dont think it was a conifer

Now i found a few logs that had a single orange gym on it like this


and ive found yellowish ones


And ive found a log with the yellowish ones on one side, and older orange ones on the other...

But the only ones that blued were the ones at the state park

The only places found them so far were practically right next to hiking/biking trails so it seems they tend to like being found by people when i ventured out into the heavier woods a few times i didnt find any...  but when i was just walking along the trail the were right there like they wanted to be found...

I plan on saving the dried gyms i currently and not consuming them, because i believe they might be two different kinds but i dont know....

I hope when new flushes come in i can get some good ID's to figure this thing out

With identifying these thingys,
First you look at the substrate, yours is a hardwood of some type and it would help to know which one exactly.
The starting point for identifying is looking for a veil on any and all of the specimens, not all gymns have veils, some have veils that are not easily noticeable..
You already have the right spore print color, it is on your fingers.
Next you want to see if the stems are growing cespitose..
Do a small flavor test to see if they are bitter, not all gymns are bitter tasting.
Yours have bluing on them, and are likely bitter, nice picture.
Did the bluing ever change to a blue-green color?
How many of the mushrooms had blue?

There are likely 170+ something different species of Gymnopilus known in the United States.. a dozen or so of them known to be psychoactive.
I would need more info about them, and then use the Gymn monograph by Hesler.
G. sapineus, from what I understand is not psychoactive, but anything is possible, and I think that the Guzman/Gartz/Allen distribution paper has that species listed, but Allen said that sapineus was likely never psychoactive.
My first *guess* is that yes those are psychoactive and *no* I probably would not eat those unless I did some homework first.
My *guess* right now is G. luteoviridis or perhaps something else we are not familiar with yet.
Some species of magic gymns are said to be not safe to eat, I think that luteoviridis might be one of them.

but they are yellow/orange so the bluing was blue and green just like cubes but only on pins and never the matured ones (except that one spot on the cap that might have been blue)

because most of the gyms ive found were in clusters like the pictures i showed you

but some solitary

also ive found some that look exactly like the orange ones but were yellow thats why i figured they might be sapineus  because yellow is said to match teh key

i dont think they were on conifers though which most gyms ive looked up are said to grow on.

Understand Gymnopilus are not always easy to ID.

The description in the monograph seems to match up really good to your photos.
A tricky feature with some Gymns is the veils.. G. luteoviridis should have fibrillose veils (fine hairy fibers) and likely to not be on all specimens, or the rain could wash these features away..
Also use scissors to see if the stems are hollow or not.

Looking at the features under a microscope will bring the ID closer.

And this is brand new to me, I looked this up for you:

Mycologia 51: 533-534. 1959.




lute = yellow
virid = green

I suspect it could be possible that the 'green' is not always so apparent with this species all of the time - I could be wrong.

It does mention G. aeruginosus.. I am not as familiar with that shroom and have to go to bed.
