Flooding in Iowa

Here's the town in eastern Iowa where my older sister lives. Thankfully everyone there is okay at least...but her work is underwater. Those are bridges in the middle, going over where the river used to be.

I am heading to Iowa later today. Attending a funeral in no way related to the current weather issues. Not looking forward to the hassle of flying into a disaster area.

:eek: Either I haven't payed attention to the weather too closely in the past years, or this year there is a seriously abnormal amount of natural disasters. Anyone?

Yesterday was crazy here.  I'm an hour away from Cedar Rapids and we got blasted by a flash flood on Thurs.  About 5 inches of rain in an hour or so.  The whole town of Cedar Rapids is underwater.  Some places downtown the water is almost to the 3rd story of buildings.

It's just you, disasters are just as common as ever.  The last time there was a flood like this was '93 and there saying that this flood not even as bad as '93.  Just disasters are getting more and more news coverage.

Apparently our news services have different opinions cause my TV just said something along the lines of "although its close experts say its not as bad as '93."  But honestly it doesn't matter, it sucks for anyone being affected by it.

This trip is gonna be pure family. No time for any siteseeing or visiting I'm afraid. In & out for the funeral and that's it.

I wish I could visit! I'd love to kick it with you & hatta again.

What airport are you landing at?  A good number of highways are closed right now.

Tomorrow I have to go sandbag the gas station where I work.  I'm going to be pissed if the store floods and I lose my summer job...

Prisoner your lane looks awesome.  I wish we could just leave ours the way it is except for the washouts.  It might help keep out the trespassers and Jehovah's.  My neighbors both have Lexus sedans so needless to say it needs some fixin before they can go anywhere.  I'm gonna go up today and try to make some jeep paths around the washouts so I can get out of here for a bit, hopefully:) Maybe go for a boat ride and check out the damage down river a bit.

Sorry to hear the news bro.  Cedar Rapids was a nightmare, but the water is going down now and some are returning to their homes.  Luckily i bought a house on a hill way away from the river.  Though some of my friends weren't so lucky.
