macro function?

do any of you guys know how to use the macro function on a Olympus camedia camera. i need to learn how to start taking better pics. its got a dial on top with a bunch of different symbols but i dont know which one is the macro function or if i even have one.

the symbols i have are

-the word "auto"
- a face of a girl
-a guy sprinting
-a person in front of some mountains
-some mountains with out a person in front of them
-a moon and a star next to eachother
-basically 2 people sitting next to eachother
-a picture of a movie camera
-the word "my" with a box around it and a circle in the corner pf the box
- "A/S/M"
-"P"
- and a n arrow with a square around it


i know this is vague but do any of these help you out?

i have not seen the camedia, but i have two olympus'(best cameras in the world), i would doubt if the macro function is on the dial on top, it would be with the other function buttons like flash, quick view, so on.

it will indicated by a flower, and it is used for close-ups, mine has macro and super macro. macro being for within a couple feet, super macro being for within inches.

do you not have an owner's maual? it would be in there, you should look it over well.

Yep, it should be a button next to the one to toggle the flash. The icon is a flower (as it is on every camera I've used).
The reason it's a button down there, and not on the mode-wheel, is because macro can be used in combination with the other modes.

5 for both of you guys. thanks so much for the help i really appreciate it. its really nice having such a lax community where i can ask questions like this and not be flamed because i dont know shit about camera's.

i have one questiton though, what out of the options i posted above should i use the macro function with to get the best close up images? my wife told me the face but i dont want to flip through them all you know....

btw Zouden im bidding on a olympus stylus 1010. are those pretty good?

I find that Auto gives fine results on macro. The portrait mode attempts to capture someone's face in focus and blur out the background by altering the depth of field.
BTW I'm a Canon man myself, but I'm sure there's others who'll be able to tell you about the Olympus :smile:
