http://www.gallery21.com/ ... a gallery of my favorite artist, Eyvind Earle ... I never get tired of repping his work. to be on a mushroom-related site and not click that link would be LITERAL digital blasphemy.

.. imagine seeing these paintings (yes, these are not digital) in person, at full scale ... wow.

ahh, non of those are even close to deviant art., Deviant art is kind of one of a kind, its a huge community that allows most anyone to share anything but video/music mainly and even put it up for sale.

Deviant Art, what a cesspool.. It's too bad it's the best site in it's class..

I am not aware of another website with quite the brevity of Deviant Art, but there are many smaller more specialized sites that have much more to offer in particular classes of art.

Hey guys, thanks for input. To be honest, I agree...i've recently found deviantart to be a bit hitty/missy - some good stuff on there but weighed down by some...not so good stuff. but I suppose that's the nature of the beast.

HB, i'll definitely check that link out soon (not tonight, i'm 'a tired little puppy') - the second and fourth pics are pretty good actually. I would no way have guessed they weren't digital!!!!!

I'd be interested to know if you guys or anyone else has any other sites they visit with some cool art on (preferably that aint laced with typical emo angst!). Alex Gray is obviously a no-brainer but it doesn't even have to be trippy, just stuff that really makes you go 'wow', how the floop did they pull that together!

Cheers chaps and chapettes, cups of tea to you all

:inlove:

How do you expect a free and open community to be filled with quality and what you may think is 'art'? Its like the shroomery for example, with all the quality post's and good people here, it is riddled with crap conversations and littered with worthless humans.

her post stated that she was looking for cool online art galleries in addition to finding sites like dA. as you said, dA is truly one of a kind, in layout and "frills". but then you negated it by saying that the gallery I posted isn't even close to deviantArt. you're somewhat correct. it isn't close, it's entirely different and thus, not comparable in the least in terms of layout and certain fun features.

but if you were implying that Eyvind Earle's work over the past 90-ish years doesn't compare to even the top-rated art on dA ... then I will be forced to agree to disagree, to the fullest extent possible. his work is spellbinding, and the only reason there aren't high-res images of his work online is because he ACTUALLY painted these vector-esque images with PAINT, years before Illustrator and all these fancy programs came out, way before people knew you could create art like what he did and had the pen tool, Wacom tablets and the Undo feature. something traditional paint/canvas artist do and did not have in days of old.

additionally, not that the money side is a defining importance of his ability, but his technical and conceptual brilliance has forced his smallest 500-edition prints to sell for well over $5000 each these days, and his original paintings, such as those above, though truly priceless in value (he's no longer with us), sell for millions of dollars, if somebody will even be willing to sell them, and are shown in top art museums and galleries throughout the world. if you can find a deviantArtist with the originality, technical skill, vision and 90 years of credentials in illustration and painting that Earle has, please link me to them. I'm obsessed with his work, and thus intensely biased, so don't take this post the wrong way.

as a regular on dA, I've seen some of the best work throughout the archives, and frankly, I'm still unimpressed more than 90% of the time.

as far as frills are concerned, it's loaded like lingerie, from journals to contests and everything else. a good place to network, too. but as I see it, the only real reason to love dA is if you want to count how many people have commented and favorited your artwork to get an ego boost. also a good place to network. but as far as just purely AMAZING artwork? it definitely isn't the best. and isn't the artwork what its really about?

I'm just biased, really. I like dA, but there's SO MUCH (excuse my language) novice junk to sort through, that it often isn't worth it.

if one is looking for a ton of features, dA is the place to go. but for purely epic art with no messageboard-esque frills? not a first choice, by a long-shot. sorry for the long rant, but I am biased and that's how I feel about it.
