Wifi antennas / wardriving and the likes.

I just bought a new laptop, and it has an Atheros AR5005G mini pci card built in.
I've seen on the internet that people have actually physically hacked their laptops to install a port for an 'MC' socket (I think thats what they're called; I need to do a lot more research on this topic) and was wondering if anyone knows anything about this?
I would rather have the MC socket built into the laptop itself as opposed to buying a pcmcia card, as good ones are rather expensive.
Any ideas are appreciated

is your goal to wardrive? war driving was fun when wireless networks first gained popularity, and you could find interesting things on company intranets, but now most networks with anything worth looking at are locked down now with at least wpa2, or something more secure. not as fun anymore.

One of those jacks so you can connect up an external aerial.
Well.. the whole thing about encryption is that its there to be broken ..
I've not tried this card for anything like this yet (xorg / gnome is still compiling ) but an external aerial would certainly be handy ..
