The last time I needed a local anesthetic at the dentist, they used a needle. It was a very small needle and it was almost painless. They just stick it in, give you some benzocaine or whatever, then test your level of pain, and pump more in if you need it.

Haven't needed to go in awhile, but the last time - yes, a syringe with novacaine.
They probably have some other method these days, something to do with lasers.
Not really sure.

You should dose up really good on acid before going in.

How can you hate :syringe: ???
It doesn't hurt at all.
It's the drilling that comes afterwards that sucks.
And if you're really worried about it,
just rub some ambusol or coke on your gum before going in.

if i remember correctly she said she'll stick the needle into the ceiling of my mouth. the worst part isn't the drilling, it's those few seconds while a metal needle is in my mouth and she's pushing the plunger and the anesthetic is flowing in my bloodstream and her hand is shaking. i always get the fear that her assistant is some late night boozer who hasn't slept properly before coming to work, bumps into her arm and they break the needle in the top of my mouth.

It really shouldn't hurt. Even if it does, how long can it possibly last? I mean they're giving you an anesthetic a quarter of a second after they stick it in.

Sometimes I would be worried that the tip of the needle would break off inside of me, then they would have to cut me open to dig it out.
That's never happened, however.

Just avoid dentists who are high on PCP. :hehehe:
