Using a screen over perlite???
    #796457 -

I've recently heard that using a screen over perlite is a good idea. I have some nylon screen that I've been thinking of using....and I've also had problems with perlite sticking to the bottom of my cakes as well as the shrooms that dip too low. This results in picking the shrooms clean before drying them which is a problem so I'm just curious to see what kind of luck people have had with screens???????

Well, i am no expert, but if you place a plastic film on top of the perlite, then how is it possible for the perlite to make the air inside the terrarium humid?

If you dont want your cake to dip inside the perlite layer, think of a metal wire such as the one used here : http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=Pictures&Number=795910&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

That's what I have. It's about a 1/4 inch (holes) plastic screen, and I think that it would be a good idea to either make 3-inch squares to place under my cakes--or better yet, just make enough to cover the square-inch bottom of the entire terrarium (over the perlite, of course...). I'm thinking this would definitely make things less messy.......

What do y'all think???
