Cactus discoloration
    #7956324 - 01/30/08 04:19 PM (16 years, 2 days ago)

Hey,

I noticed my long spined T. Pachanoi has some weird discolorations all over the base for about 1ft. The discolorations are a deep green color that looks quite nasty (can be scraped off) and dark colored spots and blotches which dont seem to come off but within the blotches there appears to be what seems like cacti version of 'black heads' which do scrape off.

I am guessing it is either surface fungal growths or some sort of bacterial infection that is living on the skin/pores like algae or similar.

I mixed some meths and water and sponged the plant with great results, but i wanna kick this infection in the ass. Has anyone got any good remedies?

Cheers!

Cool, its not really soft. The cacti can be squeezed but the skin still feels very tough.

Yeah, unless your cactus starts turning into a mushy goo you're ok.
