Do you think Paul McCartney still smokes weed?
    #7811287 - 12/29/07 06:15 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

He says that he has stopped smoking weed, but I don't believe it. I believe that he indulges occasionally at least. I mean, he smoked for 30 or 35 years. I just don't believe that he has given it up out of the clear blue sky.

I know he smokes it. I think that he just decided to deny it now for some reason.

Did he ever admit he smoked it for 30+ years?

And if that's the case, why would a man who admits to smoking marijuana for 30 years straight, fib about smoking it?

Wouldn't surprise me either way.

He still drinks, there's a good chance he smokes as well.

From what I understand, he was always the least interested of the four in pot/psychedelics, and so I wouldn't be surprised if he really doesn't.

I wonder if he trips occasionally as well. He spoke pretty openly about his LSD use back in the day.

Yeah, here's a snipit from his wikipedia page about recreational drug use.....

Quote:

Recreational drug use

McCartney's introduction to drugs started in Hamburg, Germany.[227] The Beatles had to play for hours, and they were often given "Prellies" (Preludin) by German customers or by Astrid Kirchherr (whose mother bought them). McCartney would usually take one, but Lennon would often take four or five.[228]

After having been introduced to cannabis, by Bob Dylan in New York, in 1964, McCartney remembered getting "very high" and giggling.[229] McCartney's use of cannabis became regular, and he was quoted in the Barry Miles book as saying that any future Beatles' lyrics containing the words "high", or "grass" were written specifically as a reference to cannabis—as was "Got to Get You into My Life".[230] John Dunbar's flat at 29 Lennox Gardens, in London, became a regular hang-out for McCartney, where he talked to musicians, writers and artists, and smoked cannabis.[150] In 1965, Miles introduced McCartney to hash brownies by using a recipe for hash fudge he found in the Alice B. Toklas Cookbook.[231] During the filming of Help!, he and the other Beatles occasionally smoked a spliff in the car on the way to the studio during filming, which often made them forget their lines.[232] Help! director Dick Lester said that he overheard "two beautiful women" trying to cajole McCartney into taking heroin, but he refused.[232]

McCartney's attitude about cannabis was made public in the 1960s, when he added his name to an advertisement in The Times, on 24 July 1967, which asked for the legalisation of cannabis, the release of all prisoners imprisoned because of possession, and research into marijuana's medical uses. The advertisement was sponsored by a group called Soma and was signed by 65 people, including The Beatles, Brian Epstein, Graham Greene, R.D. Laing, 15 doctors, and two MPs.[233]

McCartney was introduced to cocaine by Robert Fraser, and it was available during the recording of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.[234][235] McCartney admitted sniffing heroin with Fraser, but did not feel any effect, and never took it again.[236]

In 1967, on a sailing trip to Greece—with the idea of buying an island for the whole group—McCartney said everybody sat around and took LSD, although McCartney first took it with Tara Browne, in 1966.[237][238][239] He took his second "acid trip" with Lennon on 21 March 1967 after a studio session.[240] McCartney was the first British pop star openly to admit to using LSD, in an interview in the now-defunct "Queen" magazine.[241] His admission was followed by a TV interview in the UK on Independent Television News on 19 June 1967, when McCartney was asked about his admission of LSD use:
Perforated blotting paper for use with LSD.
Perforated blotting paper for use with LSD.
“ I was asked a question by a newspaper, and the decision was whether to tell a lie or tell him the truth. I decided to tell him the truth ... but I really didn't want to say anything, you know, because if I had my way I wouldn't have told anyone. I'm not trying to spread the word about this. But the man from the newspaper is the man from the mass medium. I'll keep it a personal thing if he does too, you know ... if he keeps it quiet. But he wanted to spread it so it's his responsibility, you know, for spreading it, not mine. ”

In spite of his statements then, and his admission (in 2004) that he had used cocaine, McCartney was not arrested by Norman Pilcher's Drug Squad, as had been Lennon, Harrison, Donovan, and several members of the Rolling Stones.[242] In 1972, however, police found cannabis plants growing on his Scottish farm.[243]

On 16 January 1980, Wings went to Tokyo for 11 concerts in Japan.[76] Whilst McCartney went through customs, officials found 7.7 ounces (218.3 g) of cannabis in his luggage.[76] He was arrested and taken to a Tokyo prison whilst the Japanese government decided what to do. McCartney had been previously denied a visa to Japan (in 1975) because he had been convicted twice in Europe for possession of cannabis.[242] Public figures called McCartney to be tried by a jury for drug-smuggling. Had he been tried and convicted, he would have faced up to seven years in prison.[76] The members of Wings cancelled the tour and left Japan. After ten days in jail, McCartney was released and deported. He was told that he would not be welcome in Japan again, although a decade later he played a concert in Tokyo.[76]

In 1984, Paul and Linda McCartney were both busted in Barbados for possession of marijuana.[244] [245]

So he was smoking weed all the way up until 1984, at least.  I'll bet that he would have denied it that year, had he not been caught.  Paul has always shied away from explicitly promoting drug use.

Well if he still does, then that's why he's probably hush about it...he has gotten caught way to many times. His celebrity status is only going to get him out of trouble so many times and I think he knows that.

No, he really did smoke weed up until 1984 at the very least.

He really didn't speak too openly about it though. He was honest about his LSD use to a newspaper reporter and then obviously regretted having been honest when this TV reporter asked him about it again.

I didn't say he didn't. I said I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't.

Well, I guess he was a bad liar, but even though he enjoyed certain drugs, he didn't want to encourage drug use. I'll bet that he hasn't admitted to any drug use since that LSD interview in 1967.

yes the most recent interview i saw of him answering questions about past drug use he was kind of honest about it, probably because he does use anymore, and he described specific emphasis on how he does not want his children to go down the same road as he did.

Yeah, maybe he's really afraid of being busted if he advocates it.

Maybe he's also very afraid of being a bad role model to his new kid. Who knows. I just know that he still smokes it. I'll bet he gets the best weed money can buy. He's probably surfing The Shroomery as we speak.
